Note

Spectator at the NCAA Division 1 regional quaifying XC meet at Franklin Park (Nancy's nephew was running for Siena). I am no fan of spectator sports, so this was unusual for me, but my navigational abilities were needed to get the relatives to Franklin Park and back. Heavy rain and 3500 high-school runners had preceded the meet, so the course alternated between puddles and ankle-deep mud. Looked completely miserable, about the worst conditions you could imagine for a 10km course (6 km for the women), though as orienteering goes, not too far out of the ordinary. I think every mapped trail at the one O-Ringen I went to looked like that, as well as a lot of stuff in other countries in Europe that summer. And sometimes orienteering can also take one through actual marshes.
