pedaling (unicycle) 1:02:52 [2] 10.7 km (5:52 / km) +18m 5:50 / km

Groton Rail Trail. I wanted to do something not too stressful on a hot, muggy evening, and I also wanted to test out the new GPS watch that I got on Ken's recommendation. Seems quite satisfactory, and better than my previous watch, in terms of size and user interface. Looks like I had automatic 1-km splits enabled, in addition to the ones that I hit for practice.

I did a decent job of mounting and staying on. I tried to do turns at both ends -- the rail trail is too narrow, but I've got width to work with at the road crossings. I might have succeeded on the first one if the road had been less steep, and on the second one I was just tired.

Note

I'm not going to log the caber-tossing nor the tug-of-war. But they did happen. And they left me less sore than some had predicted.

pedaling (road bike) 22:22 [2] 9.3 km (2:24 / km)

Last night I left my car at Mom's house so I could take hers to the repair shop near my house and walk home. This morning I got on the bike and rode over to her house via Hickory Hills to pick up my car.

running (trails) 31:54 [3] 4.67 km (6:50 / km) +43m 6:32 / km

A little after-work spin around Lowell-Dracut-Tyngsboro State Forest on MTB trails, with some of my Favorite Devoted Fans. Printed out a map at work, and then forgot to grab it from the printer on my way out the door. No biggie.

hiking (trails) 55:00 [2] 2.3 km (23:55 / km)
shoes: Nike Initiator

Double trip to the Ascutney launch, the first one with PK and our harnesses and my glider (less the battens and control bar, which Nancy carried), then a walk back, and the second time with PK's glider. Would have been nice if the flight had been anywhere near that long, but you takes what you gets.

pedaling (road) 23:01 [2] 8.77 km (2:37 / km) +130m 2:27 / km

Barre Falls Dam to Bushy Lane in Rutland, first ride on the Incubus since Alan upgraded a bunch of the components.

running (trails) 1:05:44 [2] 8.2 km (8:01 / km) +98m 7:34 / km

Midstate Trail, Bushy Lane in Rutland to Barre Falls Dam. I had initially thought about doing a longer section, but this turned out to be just right on a day when the temperature was 80F. The trail went through a wide variety of woods and other terrain. I lost the trail for a very short section through the disc golf course at the end. The "roads" that my GPS track crosses are... for the most part not exactly what I would call roads; I had to switch to satellite view and think for a bit to ever remember what those spots looked like. The bridge on Brigham "Road" is made of a couple of phone poles with a metal plate between them, and is pretty overgrown on the south end. Ate a few blueberries. Wore my ROK shirt in tribute to Jerry. The sky looks like it's probably a nice day for flying, but I was pleased to be doing this.

hiking (trails) 1:10:40 [1] 3.68 km (19:12 / km) +278m 13:56 / km

North Uncanoonuc Mountain with Nancy. Pretty steep. Ate a bunch of blueberries at the top, which made me very happy.

I assume there's some way to trim off the part of the track for when I forgot to stop my watch and drove a ways in the car. Anybody want to 'splain to me what that might be?

paddling (kayak) 1:02:20 [1] 4.96 km (12:34 / km)

Lake Massabesic with Nancy. Yes, my fourth loggable activity of the day. Watched the sun go down while we were in the middle of the lake.

shoveling (dirt) 47:00 [3] 0.8 km (58:45 / km) +120m 33:34 / km
shoes: GoLite Blaze Lite

Moving a pile of dirt that was left over from Nancy's fence repair up into the woods. About 80 gallons of sand, I think, 17 trips. Distance and climb estimated, time approximate.

paddling (kayak) 38:13 [1] 3.31 km (11:34 / km)

Nabnassett with Nancy, starting just as the big orange sun went down behind the trees. Nice evening. Missed a smidge at the beginning because the watch wasn't getting a satellite lock.

paddling (kayak) 1:34:12 [1] 7.92 km (11:54 / km) +1m 11:54 / km

Nashua River with Nancy, downstream from Rte. 119 to Rte. 113., with a little side exploring. Saw birds'n'stuff.

Note

Seriously, though, the dancing (which I didn't time) should rank pretty high on the intensity scale, especially Passenger, The Music Never Stopped, and Franklin's Tower.

hiking (trails) 1:20:39 [1] 5.12 km (15:45 / km) +112m 14:12 / km

Kidder Mountain with Nancy. Ridiculous detour to get there, because the bridge is out in New Ipswich. We hung around for about 45 minutes at the top, taking in the view, snacking on fresh blueberries (yum!), and apparently picking up quite a few ticks.
