A little bit of fun at little island. Tried surfing the waves but it was actually more fun heading into them. Got a bit of air too!
Note to self: if I carry my PFD with me on the back of the boat, ensure the boat is tied to me.
Fell off once as I got pushed sideways on a wave. Quickly realised that I hadn't moved my leg leash from my other boat to this one and madly scrambled to grab the boat! I had felt so prepared too. My PFD had my phone, a flare, food and some floatation in case I needed it and it wouldn't have been any use if it were to blow away from me.
Luckily I caught the boat and had two other paddlers near by keeping an eye out for me.
Found a ride group in Joondalup and joined them for a ride this morning. Usual attitude allocation between A, B & C groups. Asked a B grouper whether this was the B group and the response was "umm, you probably want that group over there...." pointing to what I later found out was the C group! Ahh, group rides. A great place for me to train my social skills amongst a tough crowd.
Fun ride at a nice pace. I even ended up on the front for a stint without actually wanting to! Luckily I had a friendly rider who talked me through the route and how they do things.
In the 2nd half of the ride we were on some rough bitumen road with me being 2nd wheel. The dude in front missed a pot hole by about 1cm, I swerved around it while desperately trying to point it out and then 3 others went straight into it. Result: lost pumps, lights and a puncture. Not a good position for me to be in on the first ride and it took some explaining to show that I did the best I could. Yes, I didn't call which may have made a difference, but given the warning I got, I did the best I could.
So we are waiting for the (rightly) disgruntled riders to fix punctures etc and the other group comes by. I look at the rider I lead with and say "do you want to see how long we can hold on for?". A 'yep' was heard and we were sprinting to catch the tail.
We caught it, relaxed in the draft and then had to sprint to catch it again. This wasn't going to be easy. Well, the climbs were :-) But the flat sections were pure pain. I held on for 15 minutes. During the climbs, I pushed ahead to be up further in the pack so that when the flat sections of pain were dished out, I had more of a chance of holding on.
My death knell was when the group split. 5 riders broke free at the end of a climb and I just missed them. On the front, others joined me and we did our best to bridge the gap. As we did a roll through, I did my turn, trying to maintain the pace and popped. Legs seized and I drifted back to mere mortal speeds. We averaged about 37km/h for that section!
Back at the obligatory coffee shop, we discovered that we had latched on to the A Group 8-D. I made sure Mr "I think you group is over there" heard that and the subsequent invite that I join the A group next time. Apparently, we joined them in the tail end of the ride where it's a free for all so it was entirely possible that we could hold on at the lesser pace the ride is ridden initially. Yeehaa!

Warm up and control collecting. Dissapointing warm up when my legs failed to feel as wonderful as they did on Tuesday. Probably still recovering from that fast run, my cold and this morning's ride :-(

I was disappointed that my legs weren't ready. I was also aware that my Nav wasn't going to be ready either. 10m away from 4, I panicked and thought I was lost. I was so conflicted because I knew I had to relocated but I didn't want to stop moving. So I kept moving slowly and tried to relocated. That made the problem worse of course so I finally stopped just in time for Dolf to see!
Found 4 after that and then played strategy games with Dolf. Well, strategy games may be putting it too highly. I basically did my best until he overtook me and then hung on for dear life, not even looking at the map. WOrked well for quite a few controls (6?) until I lost him across the oval - sometimes there is no substitute for speed.
Missed the 2nd mound 14 by getting 15. Realised and corrected and smooth run after that. Even beat Jacko but I have Dolf to thank for that as there was no way I could have navigated and run that fast without his lead.
I get lost because I can't see the map when I am running. I need to figure out a way to fix this. It may even mean stopping (while punching the control), looking at the map until I digest the info and then running. I can't really think of another way.....

It's a miracle!
Pity tonight wasn't Golf Course TT night. Started to tire at 4.7km but concentrated on form and talked myself into a strong finish. I was at the far end of ECU at the time so I set myself the goal of getting to Grand Boulevard. I could do a warm down walk from there.
Once I got to Grand B, I said, well, Hans Cafe isn't far so I'll stop there. Once at Hans, I thought that it would be fun to run past the pub and on it went until I was at home again!
p.s. :-( Wasn't too confident about the distance recorded by the GPS for this run so measured it again using MapMyRun. Distance is now down from 6.58 to 6.1 so pace goes from sub 4:30(too good to be true!) to just under 5:00 (more reasonable given my TT pace).
Really couldn't be bothered with this today. Just couldn't get the body into gear. I'll put it down to the cold - seems like a convenient thing to do ;-)
And the ride home. Used the path round Herdsman and remembered why I don't like to use paths.
1) they sometimes just simply stop. This one stopped.
2) when the stop, you're left in a foreign looking suburb with no clue on how to get out.
