Paddling race 1:26:00 [5] 12.0 km (8.4 kph)
ahr:155 max:175 shoes: Spirit Surf Ski

Approximately 700 entrants under the narrows bridge makes for some fun :-) I did a 5 minute warm up upriver from the bridge and it was like driving a dogem car. Boats were coming from everywhere!

The start was a bit all over the place. I wasn't actually sure when the gun went off for my division but everyone else went so what was I to do?

The chop was decent and combined the with the wake from the boats speeding on the river, it made for some fun. Mostly in watching people fall out! I was finally OK and didn't have a fall for the entire length. Pretty happy with that.

So it was fun being around all these people but I didn't feel good throughout the race. Each time I wanted to increase the speed a bit and tag along with someone, I couldn't maintain it. Nevertheless, I got a decent time and did ok.

Paddling 1:03:00 [3] 6.0 km (5.7 kph)
ahr:146 max:167 shoes: Spirit Surf Ski

Cruisy paddle back to swan canoe club, or at least it was cruisy for the two people in molokais that were with me...
So moderate paddle for me, slowly burning to a crisp as I didn't put on any sunscreen at all for the whole day.
I couldn't get to sleep that night as my legs were buring still, ouch!

MTB race (Middle Distance Champs) 1:05:00 [5] *** 16.0 km (14.8 kph)
ahr:160 max:190 spiked:11/11c shoes: GEAX Evolution (Tyres)

Fun event, probably cause I adjusted to the scale of the map pretty quickly and also to the meaing of slightly overgrown (read completely overgrown). The tracks were so overgrwon that at one stage I went on what looked like a track but it was just a slightly less dense piece of bush.

My first control was what cost me the most. It was also what gained me the most time. I try for the shortest route and discover that the tracks are so overgrown that I cannot even stay on the track. At that point in time I decided to avoid the small tracks and take the main ones only. Took me 12 minutes but I didn't make the same mistake again.

The others were unremarkable until 8. Round the area on the main track, definitely longer but seemed quicker. Then onto a small path that should lead of to the right that should shortcut to where I need to be. Nope. Small track dissappears and this time I decide to give up on it in about 45 seconds instead of minutes.

After getting 11 something weird happened. I was heading home and could not locate the finish on the map as I was riding. It took about 5 attempts before I could locate it.

Pretty happy with that effort, no mistakes that got me lost, a couple of good decisions made when I backed out and a respectable time :-) Really looking forward to next season now that I am getting the hang of this.

MTB (Road ride) 55:00 [3] 20.0 km (21.8 kph)
ahr:148 max:175 shoes: GEAX Evolution (Tyres)

Spinning session intervals. Did a few minutes at 110 cadence that a few at 70 and alternated for the hour. Tell ya what, that high cadence certainly made the hills a bit easier, or is the training starting to pay off....... :-)

Note
(sick)

Sick! Spewing, not literally though, just bummed that I'm sick. I'm at a training course for work and they have use crammed into this room with 40 other people. Must have caught it from them. Hope it won't slow me down too much for the weekend.
I tell ya though, this trianing course is more work than, well, work. The lecturer commented today by saying "welcome to the real world" Funny, i thought that is where I have been working in for the past 10 years or so....
