Nice long run with Tom, Jake, Molly and Mycroft from Hampstead. Big lap of Parli Hill, down to Regent's Park then back up Abbey Road. Very pleasant to have some good company and an easy pace.

Feeling very tired today, didn't sleep well last night.

National 12 Stage Road Relays - Leg 7

Long leg with Notts AC and a nice sunny day out catching up with lots of friendly faces.

I had a lot more company than last time I ran this which was good. Started a bit behind AFD, with Liverpool just behind me. Decided to be sensible and not gun it at the start on the hilly bit, so let AFD stay the same gap, while Liverpool caught me up. Alex Teuten (Southampton) came past here and I thought it best to let him go.

Ran with the Liverpool guy at what felt like a good, but not crippling, tempo for all the top section and out-and-back, gradually catching AFD. Just after the turnaround, unknown Kent AC guy came past us very quickly. No hope of following that, but thought that perhaps he'd underestimated the distance and we'd see him again. Turns out it was Alex Yee on his way to a mad new course record (almost a minute quicker than anyone else today), so we didn't.

Upped the effort level and the real racing and excitement started on the way home past the ice-cream van. Got caught by Serpentine RC, overtook AFD quite quickly and led our little group of 3 on a good effort for home along the bottom past the lake. It was stupidly busy here, quite a lot of oblivious joe-public and dogs but also annoyingly runners just getting in the way while warming up/down. Legs felt heavy and let me down a bit up the last hill so sadly couldn't quite hold on to Liverpool and Serpentine to the finish line, but still in contact.

Really enjoyed that and a little confidence boost after feeling out of sorts in recent weeks. Not a brilliant run but respectable. A bit disappointed to drop 3 places but there were some quite classy guys on this leg.

Running 45:45 [1] 9.05 km (5:03 / km) +52m 4:55 / km
shoes: Asics Cumulus 19 (Black)

Good long warm down spectating, joined Tess for a nice chat, had a sugar low, then did muster enough energy at the end for 10x relaxed hill sprints.

Ilkeston - Threshold / Reps

4x [1600m T, 2x 200m R] all off 200m jog. Split the sessions here but all together.

Felt pretty good, and better than the last couple of weeks since I was ill. Reckon it probably was mostly the cat.

Travel back home

Decided to take it easy as I've been feeling a bit run down/semi ill in recent days. Arne has a cat which I'm allergic to so it's been hard to tell which symptoms have been due to that.

Easy along the other ski track east of Arne's place. Through the woods past Stovner and back. A lovely sunny morning and beautiful views made up for the snow being pretty slushy/slippy for running on.

Akershus Festning

Rather unhappy with this. A good course and a fun area, but looks like I got a couple of the key routechoices wrong. All the same, I think I'm physically not where I want to be yet.

Still struggling a bit with pain in my R upper chest when breathing deeply, which Kim thinks is probably bruising to the ribs and intercostals. Will get it properly checked out if it's still around next week.
