2 Bays trail race

A run across the peninsular south of Melbourne. It was a good route and a good race. I tried a bit too hard in the first 10 miles or so covering the moves, then died pretty hard and paid for it thereafter. Thanks to a fortuitous disqualification for the winner I managed to come 3rd and bag myself a pair of shoes and $50 because I ran in a hawaiian shirt (this is an unusual race).

Reckon this is not where my talent lies but also if I had paced myself better I could possibly have done a bit better.

Running 18:13 [1] 3.45 km (5:17 / km) +49m 4:56 / km
shoes: Asics Cumulus 16 #7 (White)

Chasing the final few kilometres for the week before the prizegiving.

2 PM

Running (Road) 1:03:00 [2] 13.54 km (4:39 / km) +152m 4:24 / km
shoes: Asics Cumulus 16 #7 (White)

Easy run out to Port Nepean and back. This was a pretty interesting place - old WW1/WW2 coastal batteries that apparently fired the first shots of the British empire in WW2. Saw another super tame echidna on the way back too.

9 AM

Running 1:11:08 [3] 16.16 km (4:24 / km) +106m 4:16 / km
shoes: Asics Cumulus 16 #7 (White)

Last run in Falls - out and back along the reservoir to the hut with Melbourne Track Club. Another lovely route, probably should have come here sooner.

Fully cooked by the end, it's been a good 12 days.

Thursday Jan 11 #

Running 13:03 [2] 2.74 km (4:46 / km) +24m 4:34 / km
shoes: Asics DSTrainer 20 (Mental)

Drills 8:08 [1] 0.93 km (8:45 / km) +1m 8:43 / km

Running (Reps) 17:09 [5] 4.97 km (3:27 / km) +4m 3:26 / km
shoes: Asics DSTrainer 20 (Mental)

Back to the Thursday session. 8x 400m, 200m float.

Last hard session up here and probably a good thing. Felt really poor in the warm up and didn't feel a lot of zip in the session but it passed mercifully quickly and wasn't too slow really.

Met and saw many big names today, which I'll refrain from dropping.

Running (Reps) 9:35 [5] 2.19 km (4:23 / km) +4m 4:20 / km
shoes: Asics DSTrainer 20 (Mental)

Finished off with 5x 200m proper R instead today.

The different 200m markers were definitely not evenly placed. Some low 30s, some high.

Running 16:07 [1] 3.3 km (4:53 / km) +14m 4:47 / km
shoes: Asics DSTrainer 20 (Mental)

3 PM

Cycling 37:10 [1] +282m

Couldn't resist getting out on the mountain bike again while we're here. Climbed to the summit, filmed an embarassing video interview for Lillomarka then rode down Thunderbolt and Wishing Well to distract myself from the cringe.

I won't be winning any prizes for my downhill biking but I managed to stay upright again despite some bloody scary cliffy bits. Did get off to walk a couple of times.

10km

Running 41:30 [2] 9.36 km (4:26 / km) +60m 4:18 / km
shoes: Asics Cumulus 16 #7 (White)

Standard 5.30 easy run with the main group. Spotted a short British marathon runner with a very distinctive (horrible) running style.

Wednesday Jan 10 #

9 AM

Running 1:19:52 [2] 16.96 km (4:43 / km) +205m 4:26 / km
shoes: Asics Cumulus 16 #7 (White)

Standard group run from Langford's along the aquaduct and up to Fitzy's hut. Absolutely love the trails up on top in the open and in the scattered burnt snow gums. Saw a group of wild horses with a bunch of cute foals too. Loving life (but legs not).

Tuesday Jan 9 #

9 AM

Running 22:41 [2] 4.98 km (4:33 / km) +35m 4:24 / km
shoes: Asics DSTrainer 20 (Mental)

Standard Tuesday session - met at Langford's Gap and ran out to where the k reps happen.

Drills 3:11 [1] 0.47 km (6:46 / km)
shoes: Asics DSTrainer 20 (Mental)

Running 39:23 [4] 9.72 km (4:03 / km) +11m 4:02 / km
shoes: Asics DSTrainer 20 (Mental)

9x 1km at T, 1min rest.

A good session and a good group of runners out. It was a bit variable who I was running with because people aren't very good at taking the recoveries properly here, but I'd keep catching them up again anyway. By the last few I found myself basically pacing Melissa Duncan and a couple of the other top girls.

Nice to do some threshold work at a bit faster pace than the previous times this year. Started around 3.20 and got down to 3.14

Running 5:19 [3] 1.22 km (4:21 / km)
shoes: Asics DSTrainer 20 (Mental)

Jogging with 6x strides.

Running 36 [2] 0.14 km (4:17 / km)
shoes: Asics DSTrainer 20 (Mental)

Running (Terrain/Soft) 20:31 [2] 4.65 km (4:25 / km) +14m 4:21 / km
shoes: Asics DSTrainer 20 (Mental)

Back to the carpark with Will and Pat.
5 PM

Running 33:45 [2] 7.17 km (4:42 / km) +57m 4:32 / km
shoes: Nike Pegasus 32 (L Green)

Joined the group afternoon run up to the dam and back with Will and Matt.

Running (Terrain/Soft) 34:19 [1] 6.51 km (5:16 / km) +139m 4:46 / km
shoes: Nike Pegasus 32 (L Green)

Easy run from the dam out to Roper's Lookout with Matt, Pat, James and Lanita. Nice rare view of Falls Creek village from there.
6 PM

Running 30:48 [2] 6.82 km (4:31 / km) +50m 4:21 / km
shoes: Nike Pegasus 32 (L Green)

Easy on the aquaduct from the ski club. Started to feel alright by the end.
