Note
(injured)

Yeah my ankle does hurt a fair bit actually. I've never done this before that I can remember, very keen not to make a habit of it.

Managed a 100% winning streak in Scottish hill races this year. Conclusion: it must be harder down in England.
9 PM

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Ankle steadily improved throughout the day and not too bad by the evening. By then it was pissing it down so I didn't fancy a jog all that much anyway.

Packing to go to Nottingham tomorrow.

Running (Terrain/Soft) 17:01 [1] 2.73 km (6:14 / km) +5m 6:11 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190

Braemar Highland Games

Had a great time here last year, and wanted to show Joy something pretty Scottish and awesome.
Still feeling very tired from general lack of sleep this week so warming up for things was a struggle.

Running (Terrain/Soft) 9:14 [5] 3.09 km (2:59 / km)

2 mile handicap

I was the scratch runner and unfortunately Carcas had half a lap on me so I was pretty sure that catch wasn't happening. I also failed to catch another guy and girl who were about a lap ahead because it turned out I was feeling pretty rubbish. Chest and legs not really playing this morning. 2.52 first km then suffered lol

4th = £30 though

Running 16:56 [1] 2.17 km (7:48 / km) +166m 5:39 / km

Warm up shuffle for the hill race with Shminty. Had a bit of a nap before this but didn't feel much better!

Braemar Hill Race

No KJ, but with GG, Shmint, Espie, Sasha and Carcas on the startline I knew I'd have a battle on my hands just to get in the money (top 5). There were no miracles on the climb, and I still felt pretty unfit and tired from the 2 mile. I didn't try to follow GG and Sasha when they went ahead, and just tried to cling onto Espie in 4th place which was itsself a real struggle. He kept gapping me but the elastic never fully snapped and I managed to dig in at the end to summit about 10m behind him, and perhaps 20s and 40s behind Sasha and GG (guesses).

Followed Espie down the first half of the descent until he fell over and I gapped him, catching up to Sasha and GG at the fenceline. Then I took a different route and got about 10s ahead by the carpark, which was just enough time to cruise the last lap showboating to the crowd and soaking up a very fun and surprising victory!

1st = £250, a trophy engraved on the spot and a pewter tankard I was instructed to take to the VIP tent where they filled it with whatever I wanted. Can't complain with that for a day out!

Ran 8s slower than 2016, but was 37s slower to the top despite taking it fairly easy last year too. So it's probably time I did some proper training again soon.

Running 11:10 [1] 1.86 km (6:00 / km) +29m 5:34 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190

Hobble with GG ending with a quick splash in a nice little pond. Remembered that I'd taken a tumble on the descent and crunched my ankle which was quite painful now.

Note

So I just got round to uploading the odd race to Strava from this summer. Turns out I am comfortably leading the Burnsall descent segment, which I didn't think I'd be able to say when I read Feet in the Clouds 10 years ago.

1. Thank god they didn't have Strava in the 80's
2. Jonny Crickmore come at me
12 PM

Running (Road) 12:22 [3] 3.2 km (3:52 / km) +27m 3:42 / km
shoes: Nike Pegasus 32 (L Black)

Unintentional rest day because I just ran out of time with various things. Ran at a decent pace to and from home at lunchtime to see Joy.

Steady 7 miler with Jimbo + Timbo on the railway. Feeling easy after a good lunchtime nap at work.

Cheeky appearance from Mhairi and Lydia which was fun. Wagwan sisters.

B+B, controversially with Braids before Blackford. Didn't feel great at the start but really got into it and felt very playful having lots of fun on Braids. Such a great place.
