Warm Up/Down 5:32 [2] 1.01 km (5:29 / km) +2m 5:26 / km

A very poor quality and short warm up, due mainly to the obscenely slow-moving toilet to the bogs.

Running (Terrain/Soft) race 40:20 [5] 11.3 km (3:34 / km) +196m 3:17 / km

National XC Championships - Parliament Hill

112th Senior Men

The culmination of my most complete cross country season yet, and I was really looking forward to it.
I started conservatively up the hill and got boxed in a bit when the course narrowed down the hill. Felt pretty poor having not warmed up, and had difficulty getting into my stride until the start of the woods 2km in. At this point I picked things up a bit and managed to stop people overtaking me and to slowly move forwards again.
As we were leaving the woods I heard I was in 180th and that Cherry and Ralph were up ahead. I didnt make much progress until the end of the first lap, when I got a second wind and pushed on to catch Ralph at the second hill. I overtook him and kept this momentum up for the rest of the race, getting into the golden zone of continual overtaking. I felt really good mentally and kept pushing through the pain to new levels.

I was really looking forward to the home stretch as I knew I could destroy the xc runners down the hill. A very fun end to a tough race, and I'm happy with the result. I was aiming for top 100 (roughly) but it was a stacked field (1700 guys) and I was the fourth orienteer home after Murray, Little Rob and Harold Wyber.

Tom had a breakthrough performance and came 6th in the Juniors, I was very impressed.
