Out with the dog, who was a good sport about being locked up for a good part of the day and needed some refreshing activity. Being in more or less the same situation, I went with her.

Today we had the garden club, 20-ish or so ladies, and one man, out in the barn making wreaths. This is an activity they have pursued here for about 12 or 13 years, I'd say. They all came in for lunch, which was a bit of a racket. The lunch looked better than it tasted, as far as I am concerned.

Had a very nice visit from those Manchester Road Race champions, who were dropping off controls for me to use Saturday. .

Note

Annual eye exam, which explained some recent observations. Got to the point of looking at the eye chart with glasses on, 3 lines of diminishing size, the usual sort of thing. Look with the left only, can read the middle without difficulty, the bottom with a bit of extra concentration. Look with the right - oops, can't even pick out the top row! Seems I have a cataract, so in a few weeks off to see the ophthalmologist and get it removed. The recent observations: increasing difficulty seeing, both near and at distance. Well, of course! Seems I also have one developing on the left, but it is not yet affecting vision. Will probably have to deal with that, too, ere long.

At the lake with R&S. Took a little extra up to the top of the hill where the piles start. They seem to have taken out a few logs, but many more to go. When they started this project in August, they said it would last 4-6 weeks. Not sure what the hold-up has been

Very nice brown course at Sessions, and I was perfectly happy with myself for choosing it rather than something longer. No real difficulties, and it is a pretty open place with which I am intimately familiar. One little stumble coming down the hill to #2 resulted in me having to hop a few steps until my knee calmed down, then up through the old clear-cut to 3, going through the two depressions, which seemed easier in the snow than sidehilling around them. A pretty fair path through the woods on the way to 4, and then got on the trail and under the cliffs. Marilyn Fetzer was at control 4. Then a little wobbly on the way to 5, seem to have lost a minute to Karen M. No trouble with it, just not going all that straight. Caught a stick with my foot and went down hard on the way to 6, but no harm done. 7 was the only one I didn't go right to, passing about 20 M to the right and turning into it. I saw Jim H coming in when I was leaving 8, and he got ahead of me dropping right down to the trial, while I inexplicably struggled through the woods, but caught him up again at the trail junction. From then on he was going around on trails and I was going straight. More or less a wash. A little bobble on 11 when I thought I needed to cross the wall and it would be there, but didn't see it and looked at the map again to see it was out by the trail. A successful outing.

Finally tricked DOMA into posting my map.
