Rhonda and I signed up at the Winsted Y under our Silver Sneakers membership. I used to go here 20 +/-years ago. Not quite sure why I stopped, but now that it is free seems like a good idea. Anyway, very unaccustomed to it, so 1/4 mile was a good start and seemed hard.

Red course at Town Forest in Simsbury. Nice course by George and Lyn. Not sure what I was thinking to run red, especially after the forestry work Zack had me up to yesterday, but there I was. Saw Nellie a few times out in the woods, Joe B and Steve R once each. Generally reasonably ok, but had trouble following the compass a few times when it got thick, and I wandered way off line on the way to 10, couldn't figure out why it was taking so long to get to the trail. Then got badly hung up in some ugly multiflora and other pointy stuff on the way to 12, struggled for quite a while to get out of it. Also wandered off line on the way to 14, but figured out where I was, just lost some time. The others were ok.

Slower and stiffer than I was in NH two weeks ago. Need to loosen up.

With Rhonda, usual easy route from PV out to Rte 8 and back. Neither of us particularly lively, and maybe not the best recovery option after cutting trees with Zack yesterday and orienteering this morning, but it's hard to get out on the bike these days for one reason or another, so I was glad to get out. First time we have been on the bike in exactly a month.

Note

Got home from Italian class in time to help Zack on some tree work and miscellaneous other high stuff with the Nifty SD50 platform boom lift he rented for the day. A pretty useful machine, and we trimmed quite a few trees near the house, took one down that broke halfway up and was hanging across the trail, repaired a loos trim board on the cupola of the octagonal barn, and the diciest one, re-hung the tire swing. Diciest because it was near impossible to get into a place where we could level it adequately, and when we did, the ideal work zone was a bit out of our range. But eventually we got it done.

Another difficult sleeping night. In the gym this morning with Eric, continuing to improve in the back and butt. Usual stretching and core, deadlifts - several sets of 10-12 with 115#, goblet squats, several sets of 10-12 w 35#, pull-downs, 3 sets of 10 at 8 on the machine.

slept:5.0 weight:165.4lbs (rest day)

Slow day, not much energy. not at all a good sleeping night. Went for a walk around here, but was not feeling at all lively.

I did spend some time on chainsaw rehab. Zack had complained about the 346XP bogging down and overheating - didn't sound very promising. So I sharpened the blade, filed down the rakers which were quite a bit too high, filed the bar that had some pretty significant burrs on it, generally cleaned it up, particularly around the air filter, and we'll see how it cuts maybe tomorrow, but certainly Friday. Zack has rented a lift that he intends to go around trimming trees with, and a few other projects, including a small repair on the cupola over the old barn and re-attaching the tire swing, which has been dangling listlessly since it got a little zealous overuse last summer at Matt and C-H's wedding.
