Earth Day festivities at Ratlum. ~170 3rd graders showed up today in waves. I think 3 school buses, but maybe 4. 7 classes in all. Kids had sessions at the bear den, at the bridge at Big Down Marsh for birds, green frogs, dragonfly nymphs and a water snake, and at the little pond for tadpoles, water bugs of various kinds and salamander eggs. Perhaps the high point of the trip is the chance to ride on the tire swing, hung by J-J all these many years ago. I do the bear den station. The other two stations are manned by naturalists from the local Nature Center, long time friends of ours. A bit hectic, but reasonably smooth. We have been doing this now since about 1998, I think. Many refinements in technique over the years.

Struggling a bit after being up until 10:30 last night with the land trust meeting, but today's workout was a good one for me. 5 rounds of 5 front squats, 10 pullups, run 500M. Used 55 for the front squats. My knees were really ouchy this morning after back squats yesterday, but the front squats don't seem to put as much pressure on them. Used a band for the pullups to favor my recovering right lat. It hurts particularly at the bottom, right at the first pull. So not too bad with the band, and compensated by driving as high as I can, somewhere between chest and navel. Runs were fine, but being extra careful since I had forgotten to bring my neoprene support. Rhonda was a little limited by having only one hand to use, but she did the running with a weight vest. Pretty scary.

From Pleasant Valley with Rhonda. R leg well wrapped up in neoprene, felt pretty good. A big improvement compared to Saturday, and maybe a good sign that I can run a fair amount on Sunday, as long as I keep it light.

Some running, some rowing, some ski erg, and then back squats. Most I did was 135, feeling a little iffy in several of my current sore spots. Hamstring wrapped up tight, but felt a little twinge on the last one. A little knot re-appearing in left lower back.

Deadlifts. Several warmup sets, then singles going up to 185, which is the most I have done since my initial hamstring injury 6 weeks ago. I had the thigh well wrapped in neoprene.

Then a different workout - 6 rounds of 6 goblet squats and 6 one arm DB push presses. I used 30#, not much for the squats, but all I could handle for PPs.

Osbornedale Red course. Well wrapped up, neoprene support on R hamstring, elastic support on L knee (which didn't stay up). Intended to walk, but could shuffle along a bit, too. Not too agile. A lot of tripping and uncertainty going down hills. As noted elsewhere, barberry is really taking this map over.

Dave Webber passed me shortly after the start and got away, but caught up to just behind him at #1. Then he was away again, but caught sight of him near #2. Last I saw of him was shortly after leaving 5. Big boom at 6, at first following the wrong stone wall (90 degree error), then not seeing the bag down the reentrant it was in, so running around a while before deciding I really had to go all the way down to find it. A little wobbly going to 8, and Craig W passed me. A few others streaming by as I alternated walking and a super slow jog. Hard time finding my way through the green so went around to 10, then a bit low at 12 (and a very loopy route). The rest pretty easy, Becky zooming by halfway between 12 and 13. Tired at the end.

the course and my route.
