Orienteering 33:44 [3] *** 3.0 km (11:15 / km) +125m 9:18 / km
spiked:8/10c shoes: Yellow NB T840

Sprint 1 at Forest Park. Roundabout route to 3 on road to the south wasn't so great. Then had trouble with 4. I went on the trail to the N and headed up the spur. Thought I hit the cross trail to the W and looked for it in the gullies to my right, but eventually found it in a gully to the left, so maybe I wasn't on a trail, or at least on a different one. Then got screwed up by trails again on the way to 5 and lost about 3 minutes sorting it out. Otherwise ok.

Orienteering 33:12 [3] *** 3.1 km (10:43 / km) +125m 8:55 / km
spiked:11/13c shoes: Yellow NB T840

Sprint 2 at Forest Park. This one was better. Still two bobbles, but not much lost time. I was too far N on #5 and milled around a bit, then overran #9 in an area where I've had problems other years (maybe with the same feature). Otherwise ok.

Note

I've been struggling with printing clues for the Ratlum sprints, and Phil clued me in to Purple Pen. Worked great (as he had assured me).

Note

Went to Nysse's graduation tonight. Happy kids!

Note

Looked up my old college roommate, Michael, who now lives in St Petersburg Beach, just a mile from the Don Cesar, where I was staying. Had a nice visit, some lounging around in the Gulf, and then a pleasant dinner with him and his wife Maureen in Pass-a-Grille. Michael and I went on a lot of adventures, mostly in the 80s when we had enough money to do it and when we still had boundless energy. Fun to reminisce.

Running 29:30 [3] 5.0 km (5:54 / km)

Short excursion in St Petersburg Beach upon arriving six hours late after a flight cancellation.

Note

and then a bit of ocean swimming. Shoulder was weak and creaky, but this is the one area in which it is better than the pre-surgery version. "A bit" should be taken literally - perhaps 30 or 40 strokes. Just a test.

The mom report: We went down to NC to see my mom in the hospital and deal with the move to hospice that the hospital folks had in mind for her. When we got there, it was pretty apparent that she didn't want to go, and that she was not nearly far enough gone to be consigned to a hospital or hospice bed. It was a little challenging to spring her, but we got her out and home. With the help of the neighbor who is a medical equipment guy, we upgraded her bathroom to make it safer, and we got a home health aide scheduled to come in three times a week for four hours. Mom may fire the aide as soon as our backs are turned, but that's her business. Anyway, she is happy as a clam and re-installed at home, for the time being.

Running (woods run) 17:20 [3] 2.0 km (8:40 / km) +80m 7:13 / km
shoes: NB MT840

Longer sprint course - pr.

Running (woods run) 11:00 [3] 1.5 km (7:20 / km)
shoes: NB MT840

Then an 8 minute rest and the shorter course, except I encountered the dogs on the way, hiking with Zack, so blew off the rest of the course and went for a walk with Zack and the dogs.
