Note
(rest day)

rest day today. Thought I might go for a bike ride, but waited for Rhonda until she decided she didn't want to go. Did get a fair amount of lawn mowing in.

Orienteering race 1:49:50 [4] 6.4 km (17:10 / km)
spiked:11/14c

Red course, day 2 at camping weekend. Started so well, clicking off the first five without incident, but then two real clunkers in a row. Second one was a classic, involving relocating several times from nearby or not so nearby features, but wandering close by without finding the flag. Partly a rather vague feature, partly a rather faded flag. Then ok the rest of the way, but with a little less snap. Best news is no knee pain the whole weekend, which is very encouraging.

Plenty fine time visiting with friends, especially sitting around the car in the parking lot with Rhonda passing out treats.

Orienteering race 1:04:02 [4] *** 6.6 km (9:42 / km)
spiked:11/15c

Pawtuckaway day 1 red. Not bad, but blunders at 3, 4, 5 and 7. Otherwise pretty good navigation. Blistered my right heel, and figured out after that the little tab on the heel on that shoe had gotten tucked in when I put the shoe on. So not only a blister, but my own fault.

Orienteering (canoe-o) 56:24 [3]

With Rhonda trailing along behind, in the kayaks. Conscious decision to keep it mellow, so didn't even try for 13 and 14, the furthest off to the E, and it was pleasant going. Shoulder tired by the end, but much better than my only other kayak outing this summer, about 6 weeks ago. We got 11 out of 14, also skipping the land control, since the blister on my heel was pretty sore and I didn't have much interest in getting out of the boat and running around.

Orienteering race (night-O) 1:31:33 [3] *** 4.6 km (19:54 / km)
spiked:6/7c

WHNO at Pawtuckaway. Mostly with PG and Jim A, and a few others from time to time. At #5 decided it was still fun and so a good time to think about heading back before it stopped being fun, and on my own from there. Very, very wet. Anxious about the blister, but it was basically fine after I started running.

Gym 25:00 [3]
weight:161lbs

Deadlifts today 5 x sets of 3. Last time I did deadlifts I tweaked my back, so a little cautious about going too heavy. A few warmup rounds, and then did my sets with 185, 205, 205, 205 and 205.

Gym 40:00 [3]
weight:160lbs

Part of Rhonda's morning class, many high school kids in attendance.

Running 1:07:00 [3] 5.0 mi (13:24 / mi)

With Rhonda and Kathleen. Down Doyle Rd and then up all the nasty hills going N on the Tunxis trail, until Rhonda declared a switch and we headed back down, only to have to climb Doyle again. Keeping going would have been longer, but more pleasant. The girls were walking and running, and I was grinding along like a tractor in low gear. It sort of evened out. 32:50 when we turned around, so apparently 34:10 on the way back.

Gym 25:00 [4]

workout today is 5x sets of 3 squats. I am not good at squats, but I think they are good for me. 95-115-125-125-125. A little wobbly legged after, and tender along the top of the right quad, but basically fine.

cycling 53:45 [3] 11.75 mi (4:34 / mi)
weight:160.5lbs

Not much time, so did the old Ratlum route down Wright to 179 to Case St to South Lane and back via the dreaded Devil's elbow, peaking at mile 11. Pretty hard work, for a short ride.
