Orienteering 18:55 [4] 1.76 km (10:45 / km)

Short sprint - test driving the course before the gang got there.

Orienteering 31:42 [4] 2.55 km (12:26 / km)

long sprint - testing the course, moved one flag a little.

Orienteering 2:00:00 [1]

Control pickup, including 5 minutes hunting for my glasses after a branch whipped them off. Nice to find them, particularly since it was getting dark.

cycling 1:36:28 [3] 23.28 mi (4:09 / mi)
weight:167lbs

Pleasant Valley out Sandy Brook Road, then S to Colebrook and down to Rte 8 and back with Rhonda and Jan Tanner. Not too challenging for Jan, but Rhonda and I were pushing to keep up.

Kayak 1:00:00 [1]

Paddling around on Lake McDonough with Rhonda.

Orienteering (hanging flags) 1:00:00 [2]

Hung the northernmost loop for tomorrow, and test drove one route choice leg. Kind of fun. 200 M through some relatively thick stuff, or 450 M mostly on trail. Interesting.

cycling 1:21:55 [2] 21.0 mi (3:54 / mi)

Pleasant Valley, up Sandy Brook to Beech Hill and then back, with Rhonda. Relaxed pace, as Rhonda wasn't feeling like pushing it, particularly on the downhills.

Orienteering (putting out controls) 1:30:00 [1]

Setting out controls for the sprints, and dismantling the gate the sub-morons crashed.

Orienteering (course setting) 1:30:00 [1]

Course setting at Ratlum late in the day. Tried to find some good spots in the thickest green, but had to admit defeat, so will leave those spots alone. This is a fine year for the laurel farmers and mosquito ranchers for sure. New sections of the map are a pretty fine addition. On the way back in I was going along the trail and fairly oblivious when I heard a noise and saw a cub in a tree ahead of me and to my right, then his brother just below, and finally their mom at the base in the thicker stuff. She snorted at me rather indignantly, so I backed up a bit, and then went around another way. As I got out of sight, the cubs were up to about 20 feet, and all eyes were on me. Sure would have been nice to have my camera! These are certainly the boys who were born here this winter, now appearing to be about 30 pounds +/-.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [1]

Course setting at Ratlum. Plenty thick out there this year. Down at the gate I see the sub-morons have been back with tools and have now broken off the gateposts. That answers the question of "am I going to replace the gate"? I think the next step will be to escalate to steel gate posts set in sonotubes.

cycling 1:00:00 [3] 15.87 mi (3:47 / mi)
weight:170lbs

From home, to Riverton and back to Stanclift cove where I hitched a ride back with Rhonda, avoiding the long uphill climb back to Ratlum
