cycling 1:44:20 [3] 23.48 mi (4:27 / mi)

Still trying to find the perfect ride with absolutely no flat spots. Close this time. Down Devil's Elbow to 219 to 20 in Granby, W. Simsbury Rd to Old Farms Rd, Back up 309 to 179 to West Rd, Bunker Hill and Home.

Golf 1 [1]

I don't count strolling along the golf course as training, but the psychic energy output is sometimes pretty draining. Got back from my bike ride at 3:20 to find a message from Tom to meet him at Simsbury Farms at 3:45, so I had to hustle. Played generally better than I have been, at least for a while, except for the drive was slicing badly enough that I hit several second shots over trees from the next fairway. Backswing too steep (probably among other things). Last hole was a three-putt from two feet. Not as inept as it sounds, as it was downhill-sidehill and I just touched it and it curved over the rim and went by about 12 feet or so.

cycling 40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Mtn bike ride with Zack, some road, some trail. Down Devil's elbow, up Lavander and back through the woods. He disappears pretty easily! Included a nasty fall. I was cruising along a flattish part of trail and apparently clipped a pointy, angled rock hidden in the tall grass. It whipped my front wheel left and I was immediately over the handlebars and down. Fortunately didn't crack my head open on rocks. The inventory: hit my head, but helmet did its job there. Scrapes on R hip and shoulder, minor on R forearm. Sore R knee, bruises on shoulder and inside R thigh, strained L wrist. Seriously twisted handlebars, although that was easy to fix. As of now, the worst of it is the bruised shoulder, the rest apparently minor. I was able to ride home after a minute or so of lying on the ground moaning.

Running 33:18 [2] 3.5 mi (9:31 / mi)

Jogging with Jess down to Cherry Brook school. Rhonda picked us up. She was feeling mellow, and I had very tired legs after bike ride yesterday, and a little woozy still from bike fall earlier today.

Rowing Machine 20:18 [3] 5.0 km (4:04 / km)

Just starting rowing, now that the humidity has abated. I don't like it with sweat dripping down my face. Tried yesterday but only got 2 minutes into it when the phone rang, and then never got back.

cycling 1:52:52 [3] 26.0 mi (4:20 / mi)

Killer hills - From home to Riverton to rte 8, back by Steve Buyak's to rte 20 to Pleasant Valley and home.

Gym 15:00 [2]

Jessica's abdominal workout (short version). She does it every day and has for about 4-5 years now. One day short, the next long (about an hour). Watches a lot of movies like that.

Gym 1:00:00 [3]

Mary Ellen's morning class. I found it pretty hard today, as the joints were aching, particularly wrists and R elbow, also R hip and chronic muscle strain in L abdomen. Yikes!

weights 30:00 [2]

Out to the gym for some bench presses, squats, curls with weights and pulldowns, etc. on the machine. Puny weights, but one has to start somewhere. Now, can I keep at it? Twice a week would be nice. Three even better.

Orienteering race 1:03:39 [5] *** 6.1 km (10:26 / km) +165m 9:11 / km
spiked:10/16c shoes: integrators

US Champs day 2, green Y. Pretty good run - only about six minutes mistakes. Good enough to move me up to 2nd in M55 for the 2 days, after a disastrous day 1.
