Running 1:29:28 [3] 10.9 km (8:12 / km) +451m 6:48 / km

Tunxis trail loop from backyard down Lavander and then S on Tunxis to Doyle Rd and home. PG has been on this run. Not sure how long it is. Perhaps one of the Garmin fans can come run it with me some time. It is plenty hilly, though. Kind of hot when I went out around 11. My PR on this run was 69:10, set in the fall of '96. I've run it at least once each year I've lived here, and some years many times. Ran a few times last fall and Peter told me if I ran it every day it would whip me into shape. Best time last fall was 78:56. A cooler day than today, though, I'm sure.

Running 29:00 [3] 2.7 mi (10:44 / mi)

Art Sweeton loop in the woods. Not as muddy as I'd feared. Pretty slow, but generally satisfying to get out at all.

cycling 53:00 [3] 12.8 mi (4:08 / mi)

Little loop in W Simsbury. Not much time with a fair amount of company still in attendance.

Gym 20:00 [3]

general ab work with Rhonda and her group this morning.

cycling 30:00 [3]

Rhonda's circuit class - on the spinning bike with intervals. Because of the dynamics of the # of machines and the # of participants, I get two bike sessions out of the three involved these days.

Running 15:00 [3]

intervals on the treadmill, part of the circuit group

Running 25:00 [3] 2.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Around Robin Drive and home again, chasing after Rhonda and Kathleen. They pulled well away on the ups, although I caught them on the downhill past Triangle. The whole experience made me feel like a semi: searching for a lower gear to help me get up the nasty hills, and then checking for runaway truck ramps on the downs. Tough going when one is carrying more weight than engine or brakes.

cycling 1:08:00 [3] 17.25 mi (3:57 / mi)

Quick jaunt over at Pleasant Valley in between phone appointments. Felt better than last time I went up Sandy Brook Rd maybe 2 weeks ago. Knee swelling is finally abating.

cycling 30:00 [3]

spinning bike - Rhonda's morning class

Running 15:00 [3]

Treadmill, Rhonda's morning class. Alternating fast and slow, with fast at 8.6 or about 7 minute pace, but only for 1 to two minutes at a time. A long way to go.

Gym 15:00 [3]

stomach exercises, etc at start of class

cycling 1:30:00 [3] 20.0 mi (4:30 / mi)

Up Sandy Brook Road from Pleasant Valley and back. Really felt the strain on right quadriceps on uphill. Also pretty tired. Didn't start until 6:15 or thereabouts, so getting cool towards the end.

Running 26:00 [3] 2.8 mi (9:17 / mi)

Same route as yesterday around Nassau Bay.

Hike 1:20:00 [2] 5.6 mi (14:17 / mi)

and two more loops at a brisk walk with Rhonda, Chris and Susan. Feeling stiff and a little footsore on the last one.

Running 30:00 [3] 2.8 mi (10:43 / mi)

Thursday May 3, 2007 #

Note

18 holes at Bay Forest . Walking, and rather hot and humid. Not at all crowded and played alone, which was fine as I was able to participate in a conference call from hole 7 through 10 using my Bluetooth. Remarkably efficient use of conference call time! No cussing for bad shots! Actually that was some of my best play. the earpiece may be the improvement in balance I need.

Running 25:00 [3] 2.25 mi (11:07 / mi)

uphill from Jan Tanner's house. R & I dropped off a tandem bike that we had consigned to the barn a while back. Jan's store is having a used bike sale and she had some people on the string who were looking for a tandem. It's a rather nice bike, but we haven't ridden it in many years. Anyway, no point in logging the ride down there, as there were very few pedal strokes involved, but the run back up was envigorating. I don't quite have enough speed yet to keep Rhonda running, and it is a bit unsettling when she switches into a walk so she can keep even with me.

cycling 30:00 [3]

on the spinning bike, part of Rhonda's morning cardio class

Running 15:00 [3]

part of the class, on the treadmill. Went reasonably well. No point in pushing. Got up as fast as 7.2, which would be an 8:20 pace. Fast enough for now.

Gym 15:00 [3]

various crunches and other stuff at the beginning of the cardio class

Note

golfing engagement with Rhonda. Probably my best tee to green in years, with 6 GIR and two others chipping from less than 10 yds off. Perhaps related to unusual injury? Strained my forearm and couldn't extend my right arm fully. Pretty sore today.
