Felt a little looser today, thought I would see what gentle rowing was like. Did about 10 pulls at a 3:00 pace. Not a good idea. It will be a while before I do that again. Meanwhile, once again I could do planks. When I can do them, I can do them more or less as long as I might choose to. When I can't they are uncomfortable right away, and no point in trying.

A determined session of hamstring and ITB rolling. I thought it would be mostly necessary on the right, but both sides were affected. Afterwards my back was a lot looser. Maybe they were tight from the recent walking sessions? A long way to go.

Weekly session with Eric. Mostly stretching, added some pushups today, 4 or 5 sets of 5. They were fine on my back, a little uncomfortable for shoulders and elbows that aren't used to them, at least at first, but afterwards ok.

Very rainy today, snow's all gone. Kind of a busy day, too, so didn't really get out. Several bouts of stretching.

While progress is glacial, today was the first day I could do a forearm plank without collapsing. So can't complain.

Slept ok until about 3, but then the wind was howling enough that I couldn't sleep any more. Looked outside to see it was -12F, out of the wind. Who knows about the wind chill. By 10 it had warmed up to a relatively balmy -3, and the wind had died down, so took a dog loop with R&S. Excellent! This sort of gentle exercise feels pretty good to me right now.

Very pleasant wandering excursion with Zack. More or less along the route of the path he had made last year in heavy snow. Not sure how he was finding it now, but I could confirm quite a few spots along the way. Nice conditions, and a few wanders off the path to see other things. Some highlights: found a piece of RHINO lost and found - a WCOC whistle on a black lanyard, hanging from a mt laurel branch; and a really attractive foundation.

Wandering more or less aimlessly through the woods with Zack and Sassy. Any fears that I may have had about excessive mountain laurel wrangling this fall would have been misplaced. There is still plenty. Anyway, the walk did me some good and I was feeling looser by the end of it.

More of the same today. It is quite pleasant out, and I did get out for one walk of about 2k with R, Z and S. Snow melting, down to about 2 or 3 inches in the woods. Sitting is really adverse, so mostly laying on the floor, gentle stretching. Have quite a few things I want to do, but they will have to wait.

Day 3 of the back issue. I thought maybe I was a bit better when I got up this morning, but soon figured out that was not the case. I've been doing some stretching and hot tub time, but not getting any more comfortable. The jolliest thing I can do for the back is to lie on the yoga mat on the floor. However, that is not otherwise entertaining.

So far looks like about 4" of nice new snow, but any Yowsa! will have to be handled by someone else. Not by Rhonda, either, who is recovering from her own back incident. I am contemplating whether I can safely put the plow on the truck. If Zack were here I would engage him for that activity, but he is at school, not back for several hours.

It's been creeping up on me for the last several days, and this morning my back was extremely stiff and sore, with bilateral knots in the glutes to blame. They seem indifferent to me rolling them, so not in the mood to try anything more strenuous than cycling between the roller, some planks, and the hot tub. Interspersed with the unavoidable spates of sitting required to work on some reports I need to get out.

Wandering around NYC, I had a mind to look up S.F. Vanni, the old Italian bookstore. I wasn't expecting it to be open , but bought it might be interesting to see. Well, nothing there at all. It was a construction site. I had learned that the store was operated by the Primo Levi Center, and that they were a few blocks away at 16th st, so I headed over there to see about it. Turns out that is the location of the Jewish History Center, nice enough place, and maybe the Primo Levi Center has something to do with it, but they certainly weren't in evidence. Not a sign of them. So we walked around inside, saw various exhibits relating to notable Jewish people of the past. One particularly interesting one had a baseball bat and baseball jersey that had belonged to the two most accomplished Jewish baseball players of all time, far as I know.
