Nice morning hike with Fran. Up the nearest Free State koppie (Mpokelana) from where we're staying at the top of Oliviershoek Pass. Got cliffed out before the actual summit, so had to settle for the lower summit instead. Great views over the escarpment.

SA Long Distance Trail Champs at Oliviershoek Pass. Brilliant route along the ridge line that eventually leads up to Witsieshoek. Weather was perfect as well - perhaps a little hot at times, but nothing too bad. The route is also very technical, with not too many sections that are comfortably runnable, and lots of off-trail grassy running.

Tried to keep the effort well under control, given my lack of proper longer-distance training and it seemed to work pretty well. Passed lots of people on the power-hiking climbs and was passed by many on the technical rocky descents, nursing my knee. The injury hardly caused issues though - physio tape worked brilliantly.

Did have a low heading up the ridiculously steep Vulture's Pass (Balloch Wall deja vu) at the 25km mark and took a good 20 minutes of walking even easy stuff to get back into the groove.

Think I finished more-or-less top-30 out of 100 starters. Johardt won in 3h40ish!

Note

Went to the physio this morning - knee injury diagnosed as PFPS. He taped it up well though, so I'm pretty much pain free now and will probably run DNT tomorrow anyway, just at a very chilled pace :) Some flexibility and strength work to do!

Night trail run with Kev. From Fratelli's, up the Spruit, lap of Emmies and back again. Spooky but fun :) Knee not happy at all though...
