Note

Yepeeeeeah! Finally a world-champs-medal for Migrilli! And even gold - I was so nervous for the last minutes of the race.
All the Swiss were great!

WMOC - W35 - long final - 21/50
no top 20, but almost. Had a really good race till nr. 12, then I got tired and mistakes were to follow.
mistakes to 1, 13, 14, 16 and 17 (30" each, 13: 60-90")
don't know about the routes to 6 and 12.

running warm up/down 30:00 [2] 4.5 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: VJ Bolt

1 PM

running warm up/down 30:00 [2] 4.5 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: VJ Bolt

2 PM

orienteering race 1:02:25 [4] ***** 4.9 km (12:44 / km) +170m 10:51 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: VJ Bolt

WMOC - long Q2 - Les Cernrts - 13/49 - total qualis: 12/49
Not good, not bad. The mistakes all happend because I didn't follow my concept. (not leave the control before having planned the next route completely). After half of the race I got stomach and belly problems.
For the final I have two things to improve:
- follow my concept ALWAYS
- when everything is under control, I can run faster than I did in the qualis.
Sounds easy - lets see.

ran fast but did not push. Had a clean race with perhaps 2x 30" mistake.
Tomorrow the same strategy.

slept:10.0

Analising yesterdays run, I see that I even have more potential. Wow, a good result and still I could improve. Looking forward to my master years ;-).
1-4: good
5: wrong route 8"
6: good
7: small detour: 4"
8: good
9: wrong route - and another wrong route on the chosen left one: 15"
10: wrong route - did not see that the direct way was passable: 15"
11: route probabely ok, but loose much time - the two security stops? 15"
12: wrong route: 20"
13: on the way to 12 I already saw down to 13. So I knew exactely where to go. But leaving 12 to go back I met a stair going up instead of going down. Had headed for the wrong door. Luckily I knew it instantely: 5"
14, 15, finish: good!

Note

Saw
- 1 Person in a forbidden lawn. Shouted "Sperrgebiet". He didn't understand the word but a few secs later came a "oh" and he headed out to the path. I' m sure he did not realise, and did not now exactely where he was before my "help". (was a B-finalist that had started the same time as I did - so that can happen)
- on my wrong route to 5 I had to get back and forth to pass three fences at doors: going over the fence seemed to be an option for two other men.
- finally you could reach nr 9 over a "impassable wall" (which was 3-4" faster if you had chosen the wrong routes like I did). I had read the map and knew that I was not allowed, but it cost me another 2" to recheck after at least 3 people in front of me had passed the wall.

- do people not know the sprint rules?
- or are they not reading the map according to "am I allowed or not"?
- or do they conciousely break the rules?
- or is it a "I'm allowed to do what the others do"?
I just hope they were not A-final-runners - then I would excuse them.

But it is not a good sign for my run that I noticed all that - and that I got angry a bit with them ;-)

Note

So, enough from the sprint. Have to focus on the longdistance races now.
- A-final is a must
- top 30 is my "normal-goal"
- top 20 is the "optimal-goal"
don't want to reset my goal after I saw that with an optimal race top 10 would have been possible. Because I know that I'm not so goot technically, and therefore with a good race I will be more behind in the long than in the sprint.

Note

Had the time to write all this on my mobile in a cafe in La Chaux-de-Fonds because the shops, including the big shopping malls, don't open on mondays before the afternoon. Didn't know that this "monday-closing" still exists in Switzerland.
What will all the foreigners from the WMOC think - they are probabely already surprised by the sunday and evening closing times ...
