Orienteering 40:35 [4] 6.7 km (6:03 / km) +280m 5:01 / km

austrian relay champs on "miesenbach" with georg (1st) and mathi (3rd) second leg

the race started actually about 4 weeks ago coming home from sri lanka when mathi told me that matze would not be racing the relay. So I tried to get myself in some reasonable o-shape in the last weeks. I was really looking forward to it and thinking quite much about it - my ultimate goal was to enjoy the whole day including the race and probably my last race for the olc graz 1 team.

Had a lot of thoughts before the race and wasn't following a specific warm up plan, but as soon as I got my map it felt like routine. Georg did a perfect job sending me out as 2nd (50sec behind heli), closely following by nico (nf wien).
Tried to be safe and accurate, getting together with nico on #3, then we were running head-to-head (mainly me behind to have a better overview) splitting 3 times up due to different gaffles but getting back together again. to #15 nico was in front and I thought he drifted off direction, so went for a different parallel yellow hill, but could relocate quickly (50sec mistake) and continued alone. So I took safety routes all to the finish, was surprised to get announced as 2nd as I just saw heli once but thought he was in front. handed over to mathi 1:50min down, a bit too much for gold, but 3min before hsv pinkafeld (kerschi).
So, in the end I could enjoy running into the finish with the two youngstars for silver.

My race was solid and given the circumstances we were happy with 2nd place, but these youngstars have more in them and I know that next year they'll go for gold. My focus will switch from the "active" part (running) to the passive part (supporting them when they need it).
Thanx a lot guys, it was a pleasure:)

The less races I do, the longer the analyses:)
