Running 24:00 [3]

Easy jog with a few surges before spectating the sprint.

Note
(rest day)

Orienteering 45:00 [3]

At the same map as the other day but I did part of the boys course so I went into the rocks. Took it really easy and a fair bit of walking was involved. That kind of meant that I was thinking as slow as I was moving which probably wasn't so good. But still feel ok about the terrain!

Orienteering 1:05:00 [3]

On a long training map. Not too different or hard to interpret but I need to be better with my exit direction still. Quite a complex gold mining-ish section at the end which was really fun! Poor printing made it a lot harder though.

Running 34:00 [3]

Easy jog with bun, then the guys, then myself around Miskolc Uni. Felt crappy at the start but then better as I went and increased the pace gradually. My legs feel jet lagged again, so strange!

Strength + Conditioning (Yoga) 5:00 [3]

Just logging this so attackpoint knows how good Henry is as a yoga instructor. Poured out my entire cup of stress.

Orienteering warm up/down 33:00 [3]

A few controls as a warm up and warm down. A huge storm kicked off when we were 5mins away from the map and I didn't love it. Pretty bloody terrified for the first 20mins.

Running intervals 12:00 [3]

6x 1/1 along a road with pretty gradual climb. Felt ok!

Orienteering 1:04:19 [3]

Karst cup day 4! Another long and I really didn't have much pace or energy about me today. But the plan was to be happy with my Nav and not roll an ankle, and bar two or three controls I think I've gone ok! I just got a bit slack when I got tired and drifted off my compass a bit. So it was slow but I'm feeling not like such a spud anymore so that's nice!

Orienteering race 43:11 [3]

Karst Cup day 3. Better again thank goodness. I took a bad/risky route choice to two and had to go diagonal downhill to the control and went into the wrong depression. Had pretty good flow in the middle but then had a bad exit out of 11. Hit my knee coming out of 13 and then got a bit too slow for the last few controls. Rocky and tough underfoot but much more enjoyable terrain today I thought! Legs are feeling tired though.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

No warm down, I just wanted to ice my knee and toe.

Orienteering race 1:17:00 [3]

Karst cup day 2. More good controls than I had yesterday but I still lost truckloads of time. Ahhh. It's my compass direction that's worse. Plus I think I need to be heaps more confident if I want to do better in this terrain because there's not a heap of stuff to check off at times apart from the big holes. Because I find I can't really use the vegetation for fine navigation, but that could just be me not having made sense of it properly yet... A hot, long, exhausting day today

Orienteering race 58:00 [3]

Karst cup day one. Had a shocker. Really struggled to keep my direction through the crazy thick green and didn't push hard enough. Couldn't work out the best way to go about it all, whether to go straighter or navigate around the green stuff as much as possible... Very different terrain, hopefully tomorrow is an improvement!

Running long 2:20:00 [3]

Staying in Chur and took a day trip to Arosa. An awesome day for it, sunny and blue sky. Got to the top of Weisshorn (2630m) and then came back down to town adding in an extra little loop to see a lake and make sure i got at least a little bit of flat running in to please my legs. Ran up for the first 50mins and then had to walk to the top, it was snowy and slippery and the air got real thin. Or I could just be too weak. Ended up doing 20km and was out for 3hrs or so, but I don't want to log all of that. The most amazing views, I love Switzerland!

Running warm up/down 33:30 [3]

Both warm up and warm down were spent pretty confused about which track I was on and wishing I had a map.

Running intervals 24:00 [3]

5x 4/1. The first 4mins was nearly all uphill and the second was nearly all down, classic Switzerland I'm slowly realising. Felt relatively ok, although my ribs/back/chest struggle so much on downhills! Glutes and hip flexors felt it most. Pretty alright tracks around Chur.

Orienteering 1:04:55 [3]

Took the women's B final course for a run with the plan to push myself real hard up the hills. Had a bit of trouble getting to the start triangle because I had to sneak around the public start withhout looking at my map and then confused myself trying to anticipate where they would've started from. Things didn't really improve once I started the course though, didn't pay enough attention to my map on the way to 2 and lost loads of time. Improved a little from 4 onwards but I just wasn't orienteering well, struggled a bit making sense of things. Happy enough with how my 'hills' session was though I guess, threw in a few extras afterwards to avoid the finish chute.

Running 10:00 [3]

Orienteering 33:00 [3]

Took Warrens map and did the M55 course on the JWOC middle qual area. So so so fun. I was a huge wimp on the slippery downhills and no better on the steep ups but my Nav wasn't too bad. Just need to be a bit more attacking I think

Running warm up/down 42:00 [3]

20mins jog from Tarasp to the edge of Scuol where there was a little loop I could do some intervals on. Then 5 mins of drills.
Warm down was 5ish mins on the flat but my legs didn't have enough in them to climb all the way back up to the accommodation so I just jogged the more gentle bits

Running intervals 33:00 [3]

6x 2/1 and 6x 1/1. Found a track which was better than the soaked oval but it was made of bark chips so it was super soft and there was quite a bit of a hill in there as well. Probably made the session better for me, very tired legs after! Happy to get it done before the rain too

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Jogging to the start for an enter on the day sprint course after a super exciting day as a spectator!!!!! Absolutely died in the sprint, had been in the sun all day and it was steaming hot in the buildings with a heap of hills. Kinda lost motivation and didn't really concentrate on the nav at all, oops. Finished and sat in a fountain before making my way back to the accomodation which was again super hot and hilly. Got there though! Not feeling 100% today, just a bit sniffly. Rest day tomorrow and hopefully I can get a good sleep tonight.

Running 31:23 [3]

Morning jog with dad through some trails we found not far from our accommodation in Landquart. Saw two stray cats and a sign with the picture of a huge tick on it but it was still nice. Felt good for my legs!

Travel all day back to Switzerland. The berries have become a bit of a hindrance...

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Orienteering race (5 days of Italy) 52:28 [3]

Day 5. Same map as yesterday but with some more really brutal (and kind of ridiculous) climbs thrown in. I got distracted on number three and didn't do a good enough bearing, was really hesitant to 5, and stopped too soon on 6. But there were actually some really good legs in there as well today, as opposed to just kind of stumbling to the controls like yesterday. Won myself 12 punnets of berries in the 21A class, possibly the best prize ever.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Orienteering race (5 days of Italy) 40:17 [3]

Day 4. Such a speccy view from the arena! Super fun map, really tricky navigation! Really rough underfoot though and I was a huge wimp. Started off well and was confident for a change. Lost quite a bit of time mistaking rocky ground for a boulder on the map, but if my compass was better I wouldn't have messed it up. And then struggled on the next two controls as well, splits say I lost 4 minutes! The kind of day where it was easy to lose a lot more time though, and when it felt awesome if you spiked a control! Keen for tomorrow!

Note
(rest day)

Rest day from racing so dad and I went on a hike with a good 700m climb. Really nice views when the clouds were kind!

Running warm up/down 30:00 [3]

Orienteering race (5 days of Italy) 17:16 [3]

Day three! Sprint in Levico Terme, part park area and park old town. So so so fun! Had three controls really close together at the end in the park and I was telling myself to make sure I get the order right, but then proceeded to go to 15 before 14 and had to go back... Foolish. But other than that not too much time loss and I thiiiiink I picked some good route choices.

Orienteering race (5 days of Italy) 1:14:45 [3]

Day two! Had one absolute shocker of a leg. Like to say I'm getting it out of my system but I honestly hoped I'd stopped these mistakes years ago :( got a bit distracted when some girl chased me up a hill to ask where I we were and then dropped a heap of contours which meant I had to climb a lot to the control and it made the navigation a lot harder. That would've been bad enough but then I waaaaaaaaaay overran the control and got to 15 before 14. Ugh. Think I'm putting off climbing or dropping when I'm meant to and then am making mistakes. Some really brutal climbs again today, very hot and tiring. But enjoyable again for sure.

Orienteering (5 days of Italy) 43:15 [3]

Day one! Super tough physically and I was a bit sloppy navigationally. Lost quite a bit of time from poor exit direction and executing my routes - got very stuck on some cliffs and in thicker vegetation. My finer navigation was a bit off too but I got super exhausted and I think that had a bit of an impact. Very enjoyable though! And everyone who finished got given an ice-cream from the "eis-man" (pronounced ice-man) so definitely can't complain.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]

No warm down, oopsy

Orienteering 56:17 [3]

On our way to the Italian events and the organisers were super nice and left a course at our hotel so we could go training on the way. Jogged around the course with dad. The terrain was really nice and my navigation was actually going ok! Looking forward to this week. Although I'm super allergic to Italian grass...
