Orienteering 15:00 [3]

Started out on the long simulation with my ankle strapped and feeling alright. Started off good and navigated alright to the first two, made a bit of an error in the circle at two and then i twisted my ankle again coming out of the control :( Walked back via two others but one was in the wrong spot or had the wrong description and the other i was way off on my bearing. So not a great day after the roll!

Orienteering 15:00 [3]

Did a warm up and could feel my foot a bit so decided i would just do the last three controls of the middle simulation. It'll be fine next week i'm sure but just a little too sore to run it all today, hopefully tomorrow will be good. I did jog it though and i navigated fine which is nice i guess.

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Jogged out through a few controls with Anna out to a pivot. Got through the first one with alright navigation, a bit hesitant in the control circles but my compass work was heaps better. Sadly rolled my ankle coming back to the pivot and had to walk back to the cars. Think it's just kinda bad because it's been the same foot in the same spot for a few days and today it just didn't get better enough to keep running. Think it's probably good it's more the foot than the ankle but kinda sucks. Fingers crossed it's ok later on... :(

Orienteering 45:00 [3]

The first map in Rauland! Walked around as a group for the first two controls checking what we could pick up etc, then Lani and i ran a few together. Having someone tell me to check my compass over and over was definitely what i needed, really need to get into a better habit with that! Then was a line exercise and i was shocking, really really difficult to try and read the rocks and mounds when alot of them aren't mapped anyway. Finished off with a few controls by ourselves and that was real good, nice to get a bit of confidence back. Wasn't too keen on doing more than one session a day but this was pretty easy and mostly navigational so glad to do it. Out there for over an hour but not all was running.

Orienteering 32:00 [3]

7ish warm up.

3x 600m-1km sprintervals around Krossen. Super fun! Felt like i navigated alright and had much better flow than what i did at the sprint last week. Really nice to get the legs turning faster and feel alright about it too! Legs feeling a bit tired though towards the end, a rest all arvo tomorrow will be good
5min cool down

Travel to Rauland!!!

Running 41:15 [3]

Jog around Gjerdrum that ended up being a little longer than planned. Was just going to go out and back but then thought i knew my way enough to do an extra loop of the lake. Turns out i took a different track to the lake and was on the other side to what i thought and started running home in the opposite direction... Lucky its so pretty out!

Strength + Conditioning 15:00 [3]

Some core :)

Orienteering 1:20:17 [3]

On the same map as yesterday, and much much better than yesterday. I felt really stop-start and I was hesitant on a few but i was in need of a bit of a feel-good / confidence booster so i was fine with that as long as there was no big mistakes. Rolled my ankle again, i think i have a bit of a tender spot on my foot from when i did it in NZ and every little thing hurts a bit more but it should be fine. Running uphill in the marshes is definitely tough on the legs, but really enjoyed it today! Time includes jogging to the start and back from the finish.

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3]

Training at Sjusjøn, near Lillehamer and quite high so hopefully really relevant to jwoc terrain. Super thankful there were some tapes out from the South African's training yesterday, i needed them! Not intentionally this long I just had a pretty tough time, really screwed up the second one and had a bit of a panic out there. Not too sure why i couldn't do it but I once i had calmed down i managed a bit better on the rest of the controls so i'll try to work out what i did different. Still really shitty with my compass work which is a pain! It'll be good to go out tomorrow, i need to feel better about the navigation!

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]

10min jog/walk to the start 5min warm down

Orienteering 1:18:55 [3]

Little bit of a shocker today! Was feeling a bit tired in the legs and mentally beforehand so i dont think i was in the place for too good of a run but i felt like i just didn't know what i was doing at all... I wasn't too sure how to plan the legs and how to use the marshes and vegetation boundaries and what i was going to be able to see. And then on top of that almost every compass bearing i set was off! And i really struggled with my distance perception too for some reason, maybe i didnt let myself get into the scale from the start, but also maybe it was because i was stopping and starting alot because i felt so unsure?

Running warm up/down 16:00 [3]

warm up. I was slack as with a warm down :|

Orienteering (Had-o-land day 2) 30:33 [3]

Middle distance today. A bit stoney again but alot nicer terrain than yesterday! Not too bad of a run in the end but i lost about 4 mins on control two. I need to make sure i go right to my attackpoints, otherwise i just get super hesitant and stop too early, especially when there's a heap more rock on the ground than what i expect. Vegetation wasn't super easy to tell either, and there were two compass controls in the green that you had to be right at the control to see! Super good practice :)

Running warm up/down 18:00 [3]

10min warm up 8 warm down

Orienteering race (Had-o-land day 1) 18:10 [3]

Three day event just out of Oslo, today was a bush sprint. I didn't really know it was a bush sprint and it ended up being a bit of a frustrating race because there was so so so much stoney ground. Every step i was terrified i would ruin my ankles. I made a few mistakes because i hadn't planned ahead and had to change route choice after i had already left the control in a certain direction. Showed how important it was to plan ahead to be able to take route choices around the roads because they were pretty much the only spot to get fast running.

Running 40:08 [3]

Really easy run around the small tracks nearby with Vilde. Legs pulled up a bit sore after yesterday so it was good to just stretch them out. Good fun :)

Orienteering 57:45 [3]

The first orienteering in Norway! A club event on a Wednesday evening with over 50 people and emit, so that was pretty cool. Really happy with the first 5/6 controls but then I lost quite a few minutes on the last 5. Struggled with making sense of the vegetation and cliffs but the worst mistake was because I doubted myself and stopped too early. Really fun though! And super super wet, was worried I would lose my shoe if not my whole leg in a marsh at one point.

Running 47:35 [3]

15min warm up
Short mona around some of the tracks close by. A lot of the first half ended up being up hill so I made it well back past the start point, but I felt pretty pathetic :( my floats at the start we're getting reeeeal slow because I was getting so exhausted. Looking at my Garmin I wasn't going too shockingly slow but it'd be nice to at least feel a bit fast!
10 min warm down. And now Anna and I are laying in the brilliant Norwegian sunshine, perfect recovery!
11 AM

Strength + Conditioning 35:00 [3]

Outside on the grass in sunny Norway :)
Feeling a bit more sniffly today though which is a bit concerning, think it'll be nice to relax a bit more here apart from training because i haven't got to do alot of that yet so far.

Running 30:00 [3]

Easy jog with Anna in NORWAY! Feeling pretty tired, but then guilty because Anna was tired from 30 hours of travelling and it was my choice not to get much sleep aha

Event: Jukola 2015

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Pretty dodgy warm up because i was paranoid i'd miss my runner coming in and then not much of a warm down eith because the top teams were finishing not long after i got back and i wanted to watch

Orienteering 46:58 [3]

VENLAAA! Third leg for OK Nolaskogsarna. So so so much fun! I made a few hesitations and lost about 2 minutes on one control but i don't think thats toooooo bad. Kind of annoying that there were so many people even on my leg so i can't even imagine what it's like on first leg! Gives you a nice little confidence booster when you're the one doing the passing.
Greatest night!!

Friday Jun 12, 2015 #

Orienteering 39:45 [3]

Jogged around one of the Jukola training maps. I think it was quite tricky but I built it up in my head to be impossible for me to navigate so it was nice to be able to make sense of it.

Running 50:00 [3]

30 mins with Cecilie, then some one minute surges and then the jog home. It's so nice everywhere!

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]

10 min ish warm up and down.

Orienteering 1:00:05 [3]

I went to the Wednesday night group training that they have here. it was simplification with a faded map and you had to draw what you wanted to see with a pen before you went out, and then came back and got someone else's map and tried to do it with their simplification. I think the loops I did were like 3.5 and 3km. Pretty rough for me I think because the terrain was kinda new and I didn't want to simplify everything because I wasn't real confident in it, but it was good to try.

Orienteering 1:03:55 [3]

15ish warm up.

Then a slightly long middle distance, in Denmark this time! :) it took 37.30. I was a bit too conservative at the start and took lots of track options but it was mostly good, I just tired near the end and was really wobbly through the forest. I saw a squirrel today!!

11ish warm down

cycling 30:00 [3]
(rest day)

Took a rest day. Ended up riding over 30km around COPENHAGEN but it was all just cruising so was probably good for my legs to loosen up :) I have never seen so many people on bikes holy moly!

Orienteering 1:18:40 [3]

Went for a run on the map a 2 min jog away. Really fun and navigation was good again which is exciting, but I had no energy what so ever so it was a very very very slow session. I woke up every hour from 2am last night which was pretty annoying so I guess no wonder I'm a bit tired, but I'm hoping I've let myself recover well enough from the trip. Saw a few deer which i got real excited about but apparently they're as common as kangaroos...

Orienteering 57:25 [3]

The first orienteering!!!!!! OK Ravinen had a training last week and Steve was taking in the controls today so he set me a course. Only about 5km so I took it preeeeeetty slowly but I could do it at least! I think as far as maps go I think i got a bit lucky because the features were really obvious, although not having grey rock on the map was real strange considering how much there was in the forest. And I got my first taste of a real marsh, so so so so so much water! :/

Running 20:00 [3]

A little jog to move the legs IN STOCKHOLM. My hamstrings have never been so tight and my shoes were very very snug on my feet... But I've made it all the way to 8.10pm!!!

Running 46:00 [3]

Run from home, last one of those for a while!! :) / :(
Could feel my glutes from yesterdays strength! Ankle was fine though. Now to see how i pull up after the big plane trip!

Strength + Conditioning 30:00 [3]

A bit of everything

Running 29:16 [3]

A little jog from home. My back seems to be the most tired after the races from all of that ducking under trees! Ankle was a little stiff at the start but fine :)

Tuesday Jun 2, 2015 #

Note
(rest day)

NZ was brilliant, but i returned home in a bit of a panic about having so much to get done in two days! The legs were well worked and i'm running on little sleep so i needed a rest today. Feeling pretty stressed right now but still i find myself logging on attackpoint... I'll have to add this to my to-do list so i can tick something else off ;)

Orienteering (QB3 Day 3) 52:19 [3]

Really fun last day i thought. Pretty fun start through the open paddocks and then straight into the tricky stuff! No real mistakes but i didn't have much urgency about me for the first loop, i think i was a bit weak through the forest. Rolled my ankle leaving the paddocks to number 2 and had to have a bit of a walk for a minute or so. It warmed up alright but it was a little tender when i finished and it still is now, it'll be fine though.

Really enjoyed the week! Feel 100x better about my orienteering compared to the weekend before in Canberra. Awesome terrain and maps and trainings!
