newy park run. didn't feel like today was going to be that fast when i was warming up. started from the front and led briefly before settling back into 4th by the 1km marker. have been noticing that my opening km has consistently been 3:16 for the last few weeks. 2 guys were only just in front but the guy leading had a slight gap. through the turnaround in 8:30, and shortly after that moved into 3rd. the guy in second was setting a nice pace and i held on to the back of that with the intention of pushing hard in the final km. obviously that was the guy in fronts aim too cos he kicked on massively with 1km to go and overtook the leading guy who was fading. my kick was nowhere near as big and it took me until the final 400m to move past into 2nd. pushed really hard round the hairpin and down to the finish and was even catching the guy who kicked, but finished in 2nd only 1 second behind 1st. was surprised to see the time on the new clock near the finish, as thought i was heading towards 17:30 at best. pretty happy, sub 17 doesn't seem like such an unrealistic goal anymore

Run with Bridget up through king Edward to bar beach and return. Legs pretty sore from yesterday so happy to just cruise. Really nice morning

run from dads to merewether ocean baths and back. absolutely monstered the pace out there but was slow coming back as a result. really pleasant evening and felt strong running

NOY 2 at Hawkemount. thought i'd picked up the wrong map when i saw the first control was essentially a blue control, but it really set up the second leg well. no troubles through the first section and was running hard. lost 30 secs on the very short leg to 12 as i went up the wrong creek. next few were good but began to get a bit sloppy regarding height, was often too low for controls. got away with this for controls 18 and 19 without a great deal of loss, but missed 20 in the green and hit the next watercourse over, losing a further 30 secs. really tired in the legs to the finish from the last few days. ended up 20 secs behind josh which i can't really be too unhappy about. adapted to the 1:7500 scale pretty well i thought. distance logged is a estimate of real distance, course length was 5.6
