Felt so-so on the first climb. Bit further back than I'd have liked but confident I'd be stronger once I got going. Pushed quite hard on the descent and made up a few places. About 2/3s of way down calf got sore, eased off, got caught again. Thought it might be ok once the climbing started. It very much wasn't. Stopped to stretch. No difference. Number off, race over.
That's quite annoying.
