Faffing in the gym 40:00 [3]

Good spin bike session. Started with a 15s interval, 15s recovery and increased the interval by 15s a time until I got to 3 minutes - but kept the "recovery" at 15s.

Running (AZ) 54:00 [3] 12.5 km (4:19 / km)
shoes: Asics GT2160 #1

Heading over to Briery Bauks (you know them - just up the hill from the Pleasance, little red brick cul-de-sac with a raised walkway where you always have to work out which level the control is on...) bumped into Oleg on a shake-out jog so detoured via the mad science labs at KB on the way home. Feelign good and very tempted to run the National at the start, by the end my legs realised how little exercise they've done and got pretty tired - happy to leave my spikes behind and be a mere spectator. Correct decision as later in the day I started to feel little niggles in my ankle again.

Running 31:00 [1] 6.0 km (5:10 / km)

First proper run back. Usual strange feelings that follow a break and a little ankle discomfort but nothing that would usually rate noticing. Sorely tempting to jog round the National tomorrow, if only to make up numbers.

Running 6:00 [2] 1.3 km (4:37 / km)

After a long day at work, no pain in my ankle for a couple of days and five pints of ale in my belly, jogging home seemed like a good idea. Survived.

Easy spinning.

Faffing in the gym 37:00 [4]

Spinning 20x45/15.

Note

Walked to Bridge Road in Colinton to remind my legs about forward propulsion. Took 2.5hrs but I can't quite bring myself to log it as training.

Note

Main reason for going to the squad weekend (apart from absorbing yet more Toni wisdom) was to get Kim to appraise my calf/ankle. She took a more cautious view than the guy I saw in Edinburgh last week and advised another week off running. The consequence of that is no Scottish Nationals this weekend which is pretty annoying but I know in the big picture is the right choice. Two weeks off now is nothing, a recurring niggle through the spring would be far more frustrating.

The good news is that the English Nationals looks like a realistic prospect and I should get to race the Scottish guys come the Inter-Counties. Setbacks like these are just part of the challenge. To finish first, first you have to finish.

Faffing in the gym 45:00 [3]

Wanted a day off cycling so had a proper faff. Cross trained for a while then did some circuitsy stuff. Managed a 120 second plank which I think is a PB.
