Running race (Trofeo Vanoni) 30:56 [5] 7.2 km (4:18 / km) +500m 3:11 / km
shoes: inov8 roclite 285 #4

Hardest I've raced for a very long time. Andi was slightly below his best on first leg, finishing around 6th 2minutes down. He was in a pack of 3 with the French team and an Italian club runner. I knew the French had an excellent last leg runner so I needed to shake off their second leg to give Robbie any hope. So my plan of running conservatively up the first half of the climb went out the window and it was just "as hard as you can, every step of the way". The Frenchie was quickly dropped but the Italian hung on until the steepest part, where I cut straight up a hairpin and gapped him, then pulled away as he started to suffer (more than I was!). From there it was a long drag to the top and time to get mentally prepared for the downhill which is twisty, techincal, steep and exciting.
I can't say I was particularly good at this, but I was at least quicker than last time.
So I handed over to Robbie in 4th. He managed to haul in the Slovenians (who had front loaded with the World Long distance champ on 1st leg) and an Italian team to bring us in second, 35s down. So close! Annoyingly Robbie pipped me by 3seconds. Grr.

Running warm up/down 30:30 [2] 5.6 km (5:27 / km)
shoes: Asics GT2150 #5

Easy jogging with Robbie and Andi. Lungs in pieces.

Running long 3:00:00 [2] 36.6 km (4:55 / km)

Mondays are the new Sundays pt2, Haymarket to Green Cleugh and back, a Snowdonia Marathon simulation route Ive been plotting for a while. Very wet, the stream down Green Cleugh had taken over the path and the Howe had turned into the Nile Delta. No torch so a bit interesting up on the hills but enough ambient light to get by safely. I wouldnt say I was moving fast at the end, but I definitely wasnt suffering too much.
Route here http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5145091
Came home to a triple helping of risotto just coming to perfection. Awesome.
