Running warm up/down 15:00 [1] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)

Running race 1:12:04 [4] 21.1 km (3:25 / km)
shoes: Asics DS Racer 8

Bristol Half Marathon (and maybe an extra couple of hundred metres cos everyone thought the course was maybe a tad long).
Goals achieved:
+ PB (sub 72:53)
+ Beat the first woman
+ Beat an 'elite' runner (Dean Lacey) with his name on his bib
+ Beat Craney's time from last year (72:05 ;) )*
Goals not achieved
- Sub 70
- Negative split (35:30/36:30)

Set off aiming for 70 minute pace (3:18/km) which felt ok through first 5km but became hard work when I dropped off the back of a bunch and I was on my own into the wind from 7-12km. Got a second wind at 12km and put in a decent mile but the speed soon deserted me. The final few miles are round town with a lot of twists and turns and cobbles and I managed to keep the pace fairly good and pulled in a few 'popped' fast boys but it still felt like a struggle. This was a good reminder that you really need miles in your legs to be able to properly race these distances. Or maybe just no urban race the day previously...

Splits: 3:17, 18, 25, 17, 23 (16:39), 23, 16, 26, 25, 27, (33:36/ 16:57) 26, 25, 13, 19, 24 (50:24/16:48), 32, 20, 26, 27, 26 (67:34/17:10), 26, 1:04 (300m).

*I thought this was true when I wrote it. Turns out my official time was 72:05. Touche.

Orienteering race (London Cityrace ) 53:15 [4] 13.5 km (3:57 / km)
shoes: inov8 f-lite 230

1st, 45s ahead of Craney. Got beaten by a correct but unhelpful control desc at 3 but other than that and a lot of hesitations to choose routes it was a reasonable run. Didnt feel fast though, the lack of speedwork since woc was quite apparent!

Running warm up/down 6:30 [3] 1.0 km (6:30 / km)
shoes: Barefoot
