walk dog 10:00 [1] 0.4 mi (24:59 / mi)
slept:6.0 shoes: Nimbus 15

No running this morning because of O-meet tonight. Thus J gets a slightly longer morning loop.

Ugh, should have slept better. A friend got a fitbit, and showed how it tracks sleeping (hours, # of wake-ups, restlessness). He's not sure he likes that aspect. I'd rather not have something telling me that I'm not sleeping well - to put even more pressure on?

Trail challenge is always interesting. One mistake and you are done. Also, it's pretty testosterone-laced. Will be interesting to see if my newfound speed can help me keep up with the 'flyers'

gotta do it.

Orienteering race (Webster TC 8K) 38:29 [5] 5.0 mi (7:42 / mi)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Things were weird as it started at 6:30. Forgot my O-socks, forgot my GPS, and underestimated the rush-hour traffic to get from Pittsford to Webster... (Glad I don't have a major commute!)

Strategy was to go out with Zack Lyons, and stick as long as possible. The idea here is that Zack is fast, but is a very competent orienteer. I know I would not be able to out-kick, but wanted to get far into the course without a major error.

I probably went too fast on 1&2 (first to both). To 3, Zack & I went on the grass, but the others took the path, and passed us. A couple folks were still ahead to 4 and 5. I started beating my way back up to behind Zach at 6. JayXC was up front, and took some wild path that completely missed 6, so we dropped him (he had the map 90 degrees off).

From 6 to 7, we dropped everyone else. At this point, I pretty much ceded the navigation to Zack. I was working hard, and my brain was shutting off. So I stayed within contact up through 15.

I blew 16, as I was just running, and not navigating. Zach turned it up another notch and pulled far enough ahead that I did not see where he turned., so I blew way past the turn and went much further along to a sign pointing towards the tennis courts. Whoops! 3 minute error. At this point, I was hoping that didn't cost me second. Luckily, the others behind were also making mistakes.

2nd overall, which would have been my place even if I had not made an error....

Stiff back (I think the trail shoes are partially to blame), very upset stomach during the night (what do you eat before a 6:30 meet?). .... rest day on Thursday!

walk dog 16:00 [1] 0.78 mi (20:31 / mi)

Pre-O meet. J knows something is going on because it is earlier. Also, it was sunny - which made it difficult for J. So there was a lie-down 1/2 through, which made me feel not so bad for giving him a shorter walk.

walk dog 6:00 [1] 0.18 mi (33:18 / mi)
shoes: Nimbus 15

Humid.... Storms last night only managed to keep me up rather than take the humidity away.

walk dog 16:00 [1] 0.78 mi (20:31 / mi)
shoes: Merrell Chameleon 4 #4

Evening walk - SO much nicer. 70F, not as many bugs. J saw his dog-sitter go into a neighborhood house, and he really, really wanted to go hang out with her. Good to see that he adores her.
6 AM

Run (no dog) 26:56 [3] 3.68 mi (7:19 / mi) +52m 7:00 / mi
weight:160.2lbs shoes: Nimbus 15

Still sore from Saturday/Sunday.

Run (no dog) 22:46 [3] 3.07 mi (7:25 / mi) +54m 7:02 / mi
weight:160.2lbs shoes: Nimbus 15 Bumblebee (work)

Shorter run - very stiff from weekend activities. Supposed to rain hard tomorrow, so I figured I should get something in today.

Lifting 45:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

A week without arm lifting caught up with me. Actually, I was more sore in my legs from the total amount of mileage of the weekend.

walk dog 16:00 [1] 0.8 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Merrell Chameleon 4 #4

Aaak. Attack of the mosquitoes. Never seen it so bad in my neighborhood.

walk dog 16:00 [1] 0.85 mi (18:49 / mi)
shoes: Merrell Chameleon 4 #5

Pretty, and not quite as muggy. Lots of folks out.
6 AM

walk dog (Auburn trail via probst) 2:00:40 [1] 6.14 mi (19:40 / mi) +83m 18:52 / mi
shoes: Merrell Chameleon #6

Muggy, but J lasted pretty well given that the sun was mostly hidden. The last mile had a lot of lie-downs, but that was OK.

Took East to Probst, then right on the auburn trail to get to the tunnel. Turned around and came home on the trail. I tried taking photos of J, but he doesn't sit still long enough for me to overcome fumbling with the camera/phone. It either is a blur, or J has already decided to keep going on the walk.
10 AM

Run (no dog) 1:01:53 [3] 7.8 mi (7:56 / mi) +131m 7:32 / mi
shoes: Nimbus 15-2 Silver (dog run-we

Wanted to get some simple miles in. I changed the route up a bit - rather than the usual auburn trail loop, I went west at Cole, S on Mendon, W on Smith... then back via Bloomfield and Canfield.

Muggy, but not overwhelming at first. At about 5 miles, a heavy rain came. For whatever reason, I thought it was glorious - fresh water flowing down my face and into my mouth. Rain mostly stopped with 1 mile left, but it didn't "dampen" my spirits.

walk dog 15:00 [1] 0.78 mi (19:14 / mi)

A touch cooler after the rain. No stops for water. J did get to 'chat' with his friend Rambo.
6 AM

Run (no dog) warm up/down 19:05 [3] 2.41 mi (7:55 / mi) +37m 7:33 / mi
shoes: Nimbus 15-2 Silver (dog run-we

running a little behind due to hustling through dog walk.

Race (Running) race 18:45 [5] 3.17 mi (5:55 / mi) +26m 5:46 / mi
shoes: Merrell Bare Access 2 white

Steve's 5K to run down cancer: Steve was a friend of many on my Roadkill team, so they encouraged us to show up.
Tried to stay with a really good older runner (Charlie Andrews - 57), but didn't manage to do so - I let him pull away too far during mile 2. However, he puked after the race. I have never pushed myself to that stage.
My friend Matt caught me with ~1/2 mile to go, I almost managed to reel him back in during the final downhill sprint, but he beat me by 2 sec.
----

Start was really fast (too fast), being mostly downhill, but also because 1) they were giving a prize for the fastest first 1/2 mile, and 2) there were lots of younger folks.

That mile time was about the same as my McMullen mile on the track. I paid for it on mile 3.

Unlike my usual races, people passed me during mile 2 and mile 3. Course was hillier than expected.

ACTUAL / GPS
# -- split ----- time ------ GPSmi -GPSpace

3.1- 46.4 ---- 18:44.6 -- 0.16 ---- 4:45

Not a terrible race, but not a spectacular one. Good learning experience - need to hold back just a bit during mile 1. 1st in 50-54, 15th overall of (~180). My friend Martha won her first age group medal!

Hammy work. Guess this will be one of the 'forever' exercises.

walk dog 37:12 [1] 1.86 mi (20:00 / mi) +58m 18:14 / mi

J up for a little longer walk today as it was somewhat cooler. 2 rest breaks.

Run (no dog) 26:08 [3] 3.66 mi (7:08 / mi) +52m 6:50 / mi

Back from Montreal. At least my sluggish Montreal legs did not follow me home. However, I was pretty stiff from the car ride - and my hammy was saying 'hello' (but at least it was not barking).
