Other gardening 1:30:00 [1]
shoes: Merrell #2 Gardening

Weeding, chopping down lilac in front and tree in back which never produced leaves this year.

------
2 more beautiful large cucumbers!
... beans petering out. They are great, but labor consuming to harvest. How do they do it commercially?
-----
7 AM

walk dog 34:30 [1] 1.56 mi (22:07 / mi)
shoes: Merrell Chameleon 4 #5

J was just not into it today.
Lucien Morien park is quite overgrown right now - the weeds touch you, even on some of the bigger trails.

------------
Rest day - race tomorrow.
rest days are actually 'restless' days - twitching to do something. (even though it is sticky)

Abs related (Core blaster workout) 19:00 intensity: (6:00 @0) + (2:00 @2) + (8:00 @3) + (3:00 @4)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

Abs related (continuous core) 13:00 intensity: (1:00 @2) + (6:00 @3) + (4:00 @4) + (2:00 @5)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

This is brutal - start 1 minute after the core blaster.

Note

------------------
Signed up for Oak Tree 5K on Sunday - already got the swag - Technical T (have yet to like wearing them, however), Pint Glass, Peanut butter.

walk dog 15:00 [1] 0.78 mi (19:14 / mi)
shoes: Merrell Chameleon 4 #5

A bit warmer today. No mosquitos - they must all be in Canandaigua.
5 AM

Run (no dog) 28:29 [3] 3.77 mi (7:33 / mi)
shoes: Nimbus 15 Bumblebee (work)

Given that it was 4 days in a row, this did not feel too bad.
....except that my rib cage is bothering me where I ran into the tree during O. I seem to have tweeked in during yesterday's lifting. More of an annoyance than actually affecting the running.

Lifting 38:00 intensity: (11:00 @0) + (6:00 @2) + (15:00 @3) + (6:00 @4)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

'dumbbell fun'
plus knees on balance ball
plus some side plank crunch things

walk dog 41:00 [1] 2.68 mi (15:18 / mi)
shoes: Merrell Chameleon 4 #4

J doing much better. He was nonplussed at having his route restricted yesterday, so he pushed for a longer evening walk.
6 AM

Run (no dog) 26:18 [3] 3.68 mi (7:09 / mi)

Crick in back at beginning. Thought I was running hard-ish, but at the bottom of the first hill (at the turn where I usually glance at my watch), I found I was about 10s slower than what I expected. So I picked it up a bit - didn't realize how much until later. I put in a surge along Carriage, as the original plan was to jog along and do some surges. I was a little shocked when I hit 2 miles at ~14:30, as it suggested that mile 2 was quite quick. I threw in another surge going down East. Hit 3mi at a decent overall time. At that point, it was a matter of finishing it up strong. (total of 7 quarters below 7:00 pace today)

Did not expect it to end up at 7:08 overall pace. Hope I didn't burn out my legs - looking at a road race (no maps!) this Sunday.

walk dog 34:00 [1] 1.76 mi (19:19 / mi)
shoes: Merrell Chameleon 4 #5

J starting to feel better

Note

----
Small pile of beans
2 tomatoes
1 cucumber
decided to give garden a good watering tonight - plants looking very stressed from my laissez-faire approach

Note

-----------
I see on my flag counter that I have a visitor from IL. I considered going to the downtown Chicago O meet last Sunday, rather than the WPOC meet, but that would have caused a 10 hour drive home that night which is not doable. 8 hours seems to be my tolerance level.
----------
5 AM

Run (no dog) 26:42 [3] 3.46 mi (7:43 / mi)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 14-2 (walk)

Humid, dark (no headlamp yet). Body not moving great this AM, so took it easier.

... missed noon lifting due to last minute need to request $ for next year. If it weren't for powerpoint nothing would get done in business. Or is the opposite ture? With powerpoint, nothing gets done in business.

Tuesday Aug 26, 2014 #

walk dog 6:00 [1] 0.2 mi (29:59 / mi)
shoes: Nimbus 15 Bumblebee (work)

J not feeling well at all. Panting, drooping head & puking. I feel so bad for him.

Physical Therapy 40:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

standard weights.
6 AM

Run (no dog) 26:50 [3] 3.66 mi (7:20 / mi)
slept:5.0 weight:163lbs shoes: Nimbus 15 Bumblebee (work)

Not at all smooth today - still stiff and fatigued from Sunday's O, plus arms are sore from lifting for first time in 1.5 weeks (although it feels like it was 3 months).

Monday Aug 25, 2014 #

Lifting 50:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

RW exercises
2 weeks since the last time I did this - and it showed. Could only do 1 pull-up.
Still aching all over from O meet.

Abs related (continuous plank) 13:00 intensity: (5:00 @3) + (4:00 @4) + (4:00 @5)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 12 (old work)

Well, at least I was able to complete it.

walk dog 15:00 [1] 0.78 mi (19:14 / mi)

Other gardening 1 [0]
shoes: Merrell #2 Gardening

3.5 cucumbers (upper planters only grow 1/2 as long). Absolutely gorgeous.
3 tomatoes - had to throw a whole bunch into bushes, as the slugs had gotten to them while I was away
2 huge piles of beans. 1 week without picking leads to 30 minutes in front of the plants. I jettisoned some of the largest ones, as I don't like them when they've gotten too big.

Orienteering 2:22:17 [3] *** 8.0 mi (17:47 / mi)
spiked:2/13c shoes: Nimbus 15

Orienteering with Western PA OC. Deer Creeks Park. Red Course. Generally similar wooded terrain to Monroe county parks.
Large Map, 10:000 scale.

Good news: This completed my runs in 4 states over 6 days.

Bad news: Extremely humbling event - good kick in pants to remind me how bad I am at this.
Started off with a stinker on #1 - needed to read map closer (i.e. look at stanchions for telephone wire). Also, needed to be more careful on using compass for direction. Trust that they will not put control in middle of brambles (although later, some of the placements were questionable in terms of being hidden).

Almost took a DNF at #9 after the 'completely lost' panic set in (quite a few unmapped trails in north area of park). Luckily, others eventually came by.... At least I was not last. Pretty bad on decision making, compassing (seem to drift right quite a bit), handrails, looking at contours and all that stuff.

http://www.wpoc.org/
Results now up --> 8th out of 17 (includes a bunch of DNFs).

(more later after download)

-Slammed chest into tree (bruised chest)
-Twisted ankle
-Scratched everywhere - lots of prickers (need to get some of those functional, yet goofy, O pants)
-Will need to spend a long long time picking brambles out of shorts and the fancy socks.
