Running 1:50:00 [1] 19.07 km (5:46 / km)
shoes: inov-8 Oroc 280

Pretty standard long run that isn't quite as long because I start late. I've concluded this pair of Orocs are surely totally totally dead, I got them summer 2010, so a year and a half is like, 16 months longer than my usual standard. So, garbage they go! Fortunately, I've got more! Huzzah! Its remarkable looking at just how few runners even have trail shoes. Does it not frustrate them to no end to not be able to stop, go, turn, and stop?

Cycling 45:00 [1]

Was going to run again, but my feet hurt from the day at the shop and the workout this morning, so time to spin on the trainer.

No wiki-learning today, instead, read this:

Reuters Best Photos of 2011

Those are some intense photos. The stories that go with them really set the scene nicely. Be warned, some are pretty graphic (#100, in particular), so don't look at them if you don't want to be disturbed, shocked, saddened, depressed, concerned, or annoyed that the only picture from Canada is one of a stupid nudist colony in Ontario. I suppose that's better than things exploding, though.

Still, riveting stuff. Its keeping me up late.

Running tempo 1:05:00 [3] 12.41 mi (5:14 / mi)
shoes: inov-8 Oroc 280

1 x 40 minutes at "best aerobic pace". I'm still trying to gauge what that is, today felt comfortable, though slow. Still, I got within a few metres of the start point, since we do 20 minutes out and 20 minutes back. Averaged about 4:25 comfortably at a HR around 140-145-ish, which, I suppose HR-wise was about ideal. Still, FT workouts are annoying someimtes because the warm-ups are so short, and I'd like to get in a bit more time. Then again, the shop was opening, so I didn't have the time anyway.

Got our new shop kit today, too, Swix race suit and warm-ups, sweet! (except I didn't get a suit... :( Hopefully there will be one for me eventually ...) I will admit I like it when we get custom stuff better, but Swix makes good stuff, so can't complain. I have WAY to much gear now. But I can't bear to part with any of my children (unless they say Atomic on it).

Today I learned about:

CBYG-FM

Well, not much to say about this one, since its the CBC station of Prince George. So, instead, I'll rag on the town. For some crazy reason, I've been there twice. Once is definitely enough. There's is something about the smell of pulp and diesel trucks that just clings to your clothes for weeks on end. Also, that on the list of the best Canadian communities, Prince George 164th out of 179 communities? That wasn't in the Wikipedia article, but its a telling statement.

However, fun ski trails. And Doc Smith is okay (in there just so that he doesn't get revenge on me through medicine).

Cycling 45:00 [1]

Oh right, and I biked on my trainer after the shop!

Can't forget that.

Running 1:20:00 [1] 13.24 km (6:03 / km)

Ran an simple workout, with some 5 peaks in it. Did a different loop than usual, and its not quite as nice a run, though it is longer. 2/5 times are stairs rather than a hill. Not that I'm opposed to stairs, I suppose.

Was going to spend the night doing more Sweden research but got distracted by working on my Legislature map and buying gear from Madshus on staff deal (hellooooo more poles). Kind of a bummer because the map is turning out to be not quite as interesting as I hoped. Scenic, though. At least it'll look cool(ish).

Richard Schirrmann

Wow, that's a lot of r's and n's. Despite this article being incredibly poorly written, I think its saying that Schirrmann was in one of the many regiments who during the First World War actually stopped fighting the enemy (for him, the French) on Christmas day, travelled through the trench tunnels to hang out with each other and share food, wine, and cigarettes. This inspired him to envision youth hostels as a place where people from different cultures could get to know each other.

And have 3 hour long drum circle jam sessions.

Running 1:25:00 [3] 15.77 km (5:23 / km)
shoes: inov-8 Oroc 280

6 x 8 minutes @ "best aerobic pace". Basically as fast as I can go while staying entirely aerobic, so kind of tempo, foundation, cruise, brisk, whatever you want to call it. I can't decide if this was a little easy, we'll see, but I'd like to get the feel of it down since it will be a recurring theme throughout the winter.

Also, my tent came in today, a sweet 2-person ultralight. Makes me feel the need to go back to O-Ringen and get the full camping experience (not that I was sad to be in a swanky apartment during the monsoon that was Orebro).

Today I learned about

Edward Golding

There are three of them, so I picked the first. Initially I thought he was going to be some boring UK MP from some boring constituency (Fowey) from today. Turns out, Fowey was abolished in 1832 by the "Great Reform Act", now its kind of around Cornwall, in the south west. Anyway, Mr. Golding managed three whole years as an MP, which is more than one can say for "The Viscount Fitz William", "John Cheesment Severn", and "Reginald Pole-Carew".

Oh Brits, you're so.... British.

Cycling 1:00:00 [1]

Technically I did two 45 minute trainer workouts, but the sake of honesty, I'm just going to call in an hour. My toe joint that I obliterated in Ottawa was a little irritating at soccer, so ice and not running was the name of the game. We'll give it a wing tomorrow.

Today I learned about:

Thakar Tribe

Wow, so much learning to be had on this page, because I really don't understand what any of it means. Scheduled tribes are "historically disadvantaged people given express recognition in India" (also known as, "people who the Brits particularly screwed over in India"). Adviasi is the umbrella term for all of the similar indigenous tribes of India. Maharashtra is a state in mid-western India and has Mumbai in it.

And that's just the first sentence.

Running intervals 1:07:00 [4] 13.18 km (5:05 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

3 x 10 minute intevals. It was supposed to be 5 x 10, but I felt I should make the workout a bit shorter to get to the office at a reasonable hour. Also should've worn my Orocs, because the whole world is still a skating rink. That'll make a sweet base if it ever snows. Soft snow covering ice. Awesome.

Running 35:00 [1]

Well, I intended to go for a nice little jog in Mill creek after indoor. Unfortunately, first I forgot my watch, then the jog started off okay, still feeling kinda tired, and then I clearly hit some sort of monstrous wall, I started to get wobbly, and not in a good state at all. But I really wanted to continue! Nevertheless, I heel-toed it back to the car, then I got home and really wasn't quite as hungry as I anticipated. Nonetheless, if I'm going to do a work-out after soccer, I've got to get some food, or some FRS, or something.

Today, I learned about:

Michael Smith (chef)

Well, it took several weeks, but I finally stumbled on a random page of something I already know about. He's a chef, on the food network. And apparently he lost in Iron Chef. The Youtube videos comments bemoan the fact that the judges apparently don't know what they were talking about and his dishes were too sophisticated to understand.

By then I've usually changed the channel to something else.

Running 1:30:00 [1] 17.03 km (5:17 / km)
shoes: Saucony Kinvara

Had a loop in mind I was going to run, almost all on road so I could go in my road shoes. I had no idea how long it was since I'd never done it in that order before. Then just started my watch and ran however fast I felt like. Turned out to be almost bang on 90 minutes, so that was awesome. Thanks to the rain and +8 yesterday it was also a bit of a skating rink, but no face-smashing occurred. Here's the GPS track, which is quite exciting because apparently at one point I was going 209km/h. I'm just THAT good.

Today I learned about:

Cognitive Philology

This sounds like a complex, abstract, but really interesting arm of (presumably a portmanteau) of Philosophy and Psychology. It almost seems too complex to summarize, though the most effective explanation seems that quote: "The point is not the text, but the mind that made it". Honestly, given my enjoyment of sport psychology from undergrad, I would consider pursuing this field more.

Unfortunately, research makes me fall asleep.
