Nordic (skating) 1:30:00 [1] 22.28 km (4:02 / km)

A nice ski in dirty but still solid conditions. Ice is fast, melty is slow.

Its hard to tell if the pain in my achilles at the moment is in my achilles or in my head.

Orienteering 1:20:00 [5] 16.0 km (5:00 / km)

Helsinki City-o, 15 k.

Basically a score-o. You have to go to all the controls, and then follow a short loop at the end in order. You have two minutes to plan a route, which was next to impossible to plan the whole thing.

I've learned the optimal thing to do is to plan the first 1/4, and the last 1/4, and plan the middle as you go.

I blew in the last quarter, and missed the last control before the short loop.

3 races in and I've already catastrophically screwed up. Off to a great start.

Orienteering 50:00 [5] 6.0 km (8:20 / km)

Sprint #1 of Stadi-Sprintti.

Highly abbreviated warmup due to arriving with only about 20 minutes until my start.

Half urban, half cool forest, but too much ice & snow. Everyone ran in orienteering shoes, which made me a nervous runner. Too many legs where the good routes were really obscured and hard to see, even with a magnifier.

Not great.

Orienteering 45:00 [5] 6.0 km (7:30 / km)

Afternoon sprint. All forest.

I used to complain that forest events were boring (and in some clubs, they ARE), and I want to do more urban sprints.

Now that I've done a bajilion urban sprints, and the ratio of amazing to dull is weighting closer to the latter (especially after every WOC quali), I'm thinking, "let's do more forest sprints!".

Aside from the ice, this was fun! Lots of kallio, a little bit of trails, route choice. Good times.

Running 35:00 [1] 6.27 km (5:35 / km)

A tester run for this weekend's races.

Not bad.

Nordic (skating) 1:25:00 [1] 15.67 km (5:25 / km)

Another nice ski, probably the last one with good skis.

Impromptu 8 x 1 minute sprints w/ 1 minute rest.

Nordic (classic) 1:25:00 [1] 18.41 km (4:37 / km)

Skiing is still really good (except for all the pine needles). Which is great! Tons of snow!

Except the orienteering season starts this weekend. Two sprints on Saturday and a 15k urban around Helsinki on Sunday.

Hmmm..... time to compress myself to the gills.

Nordic (classic) 1:40:00 [1] 22.05 km (4:32 / km)

A final ridiculous ski around Ruka.

Ruka is amazing, but I don't know anyone there so I have to pay for a cabin.

And its an incredibly boring 8 hour drive away.

Note

Downhill skied (instead of snowboarding) for the first time in around 20 years.

Just like riding a bike. Still got it.
