Orienteering race 27:00 [4]

Corn Maze Sprint, approximate time. Forgot to download so no results. Estimated my time based on Rhonda and Judy's time. I started about a minute later and finished at about the same time--I think.

Had a blast. Made 2 big errors. The first, headed for the perimeter trail then realized about 100 m along the western perimeter trail that I wanted to be on the "dot" trail. Oops. Later, mistook the control number and leg and was headed to the wrong control. Oh well. Still loads of fun.

Orienteering race (Corn Maze Classic) 35:40 [4]

Corn Maze Classic. After the sprint, I learned to be more careful. No big mistakes except for heading to the wrong control again. Happy with my race. First Corn maze races and really enjoyed the different strategies compared to woods or urban O. Head for the "the" or the "pale" or the "dot" to access the letter of "EARTH" where the control would be. Lots of quick decisions. Most trouble leaving controls and not paying attention, then realizing I didn't know quite where I was. Open areas very helpful. Fun to see everyone scrambling around. Lots of good will in the maze.

Orienteering race (Night O) 39:47 [3]

Corn Maze Night-O. Thought I'd just walk since I had hot spots on my feet from all the twisting and turning of the two earlier races, but I just couldn't walk--had to "run". So much fun.

Since I had forgotten to download the Sprint, I was given a zero score and ended up with the maximum handicap--9 skips. I was considering doing only part of the course, hoping to just enjoy being in the maze at night with everyone else, but with all the skips, I only had to do 2/3 of the course anyway. It was really fun to skip the long ones.

Had such a good time. Love being there with Ethan and seeing him do well. Fun to see old friends, especially Peter and Gail who have been scarce of late. Thanks to the meet director for a great event.

Trail running race 43:56 [4]

Catamount Trail Running Series--Mamut Course (red on black). Nice a cool. Ran almost the whole thing--could have, but got tired and walked about100m. Had Hillary as a running buddy, which is unusual, so I spent some of my energy talking. Enjoyed visiting with her though.

Running 35:00 [3]

Ran the roads at the farm, walked one segment of early uphill. On the way back down, I spotted a coyote which I stopped to watch as it hunted in the hayfield about 100m away. I stood there for about 5 min, fascinated by its behavior. When I moved a little to keep it in view, I spotted a 2nd coyote about 30 away from me, entering the field from the hedgerow alongside the road. That was cool. It was away of my presence and when it jogged down past the first one, the first one got wise and looked around. As it looked my way, I did a few jumping jacks to confirm that I was there and it quickly bounded into the woods below. Never watched a coyote before. Pretty cool. Saw one of them a short while later nearer the house, as well as a few piles of scat in the driveway. I think we are competing for territorial control.
