Trail running race 39:35 [4]
What a day! Getting ready for the construction to begin on our kitchen addition. Transplanted perennials and a moderate-sized rhododendron this morning, walked Lucy w/ Carl, then helped Carl with the removal of a tree that is in the way. Hard to see the tree go, but it was meant to be temporary until the nearby sugar maple got bigger, which it now is doing and is being affected by the box elder, it was shading the back of the house and contributing to algae growth, it was shading my perennials (including peonies), etc. It was, however, a "sheltering tree" which provided a wonderful sense of protection while on the deck, some dappled light during the day, a shady spot in the back yard to work on a hot day and I just plain enjoyed it. It was hard to give Carl the go-ahead to cut it, but it WILL be in the way during the construction and needed to come down in the next few years anyway. I hope I don't miss it too much. Ethan was much more vexed about it than I ever would have guessed.
Anyway, I schlepped branches up to the brush pile (about 200m, uphill and then downhill) for 2 hours, then raked and cleaned up. Finally, I did the 5km trail running race at Catamount. I was exhausted before I started and allowed myself to walk for a minute a couple of times, but I finished! What a day.
After dinner, I actually took some time to stretch--found some muscles that haven't been worked in years, I think. Felt great. Hope I feel OK tomorrow!
