Trail running 31:37 [3]

Ran the Orange Course at the Catamount Trail Running Series. This is the nearly flat, gravel road that they use when rain has made a quagmire out of the regular trails. Temps were in low 70s, which was good, but the humidity felt like 90%, which was not good. I managed to "run" all of it without stopping though. Why is it still so hard? Probably doesn't help that my weight is on the high side of my normal range. Boo.

Walking 30:00 [2]

The usual w Carl, except that we walked to the Town Hall to pay our taxes, then over to the library to check out the rain garden after the deluge we had this morning, then returned home via the school, new neighborhood and rec path. The beavers are building a dam under the bridge at the end of our street. Makes for an interesting pause to check out the progress each day. We really should call the town and report it before the next flood comes along and washes the bridge out.

Walking 1:15:00 [2]

Walked Butternut w KM and PS. Haven't gathered with friends to walk there in months. With KH gone to Australia, all of her social director influences have left the rest of us spinning around in our own little worlds. Will be so glad when she returns in September!

Note

Worked in the garden again today, digging up a 20 sqft area and removing every plant that had taken hold there. Worked up quite a sweat and had to stop after about an hour when my back started complaining. Got the job done though. Planted two Cimicifuga and a new plant, Trautvetteria caroliniensis (Carolina Bugbane). I had never even heard of,the genus before. Got it at the unparalleled Cady's Falls Nursery. I hope it likes it in my garden.

The usual w Carl.

Trail running 41:50 [3]

Ran the Black Course at Catamount. Temps in the low 70s with reasonable humidity so it was a pleasure to run. I actually felt good. Had some spring in my step on and off and didn't die on the uphills. Knees got a little stiff toward the end, but I decided to try and finish the course anyway.

Walking 30:00 [2]

The usual w Carl. My log is deceptive. I've been active, but not training and though I've been doing a bit more the past week, I haven't logged for so long that it just seems like a lot. It's not, and I'm not in very good shape. I just have time and the inclination to write this week.

Note

WOC Week. Loving following the WOC events online and checking in on friends' times in the Scottish 6-Days.

Trail running race 40:19 [4]

Catamount Trail Running Series.
Not too hot, 78 degrees, not as humid as it was last week. Felt really tired in first 1/3, so-so in second 1/3 so I walked most of the uphills, felt pretty good in last 1/3 which was mostly downhill. Had a teeny tiny bit of energy left to pick up the pace (imperceptably) in the last 50 meters.

Feeling very low energy, sore left knee, blah, blah, blah.

Walking 20:00 [2]

Storrs Pond Dartmouth O Program for FOM. Had to walk up the road to intercept two fellows who had to quit the O course. Otherwise, did not do much aerobically, just helped with the usual setting up the rafts, the paddles, life jackets, etc. Then led my workshop on contours. Best one yet. Good group. Spent more time on the map walk and less with the visual aids.

Orienteering 3:00:00 [2]

Set out controls on campus, facilitated a group as they did their course, then picked up controls. Long day. Also helped set out controls on the pond in the morning.

Walking 2:00:00 [2]

Helped Carl down at the farm. After mowing (on the riding mower), I dug up some Large-leaf hydrangea to move to our house. Then went hunting for raspberries in the pastures. Walked down through the hayfield to check out the Morgan Memorial after reports that it was all overgrown, then continued along the perimeter long enough to encounter some stinging nettles. Ouch. Had not been out that way for ages and noted how much things have grown up , especially the Christmas trees Carl and I planted when we were first married. It's a micro forest of pretty tall trees now (25 years old!). Anyway, was sore and tired after the gardening the day before, but the walking felt good. Got enough raspberries for a couple servings.

Gardening 1:00:00 [4]

Dug out a weed patch using the shuffle hoe and then resorted to the mattock. Had to stop when my back muscles seized up. I kept all the weeds in place, dumped compost over them and covered with landscape fabric to kill it all off. I have been removing lilac suckers from the area since last fall and the newly turned soil got away from me. Very physical work for me at this point. Hard to move the next day, but only muscle soreness, fortunately, not back pain.
