Note

Heading into the Orongorongo valley tomorrow for some killing in the name of science. Out to Friday at the latest. Had planned to go orienteering today but this morning was too easy to succumb to thoughts of who the hell schedules training at the most exposed spot in Wellington in late May?

Run 1:05:00 [3]
shoes: XTalon 2017

Off-road, hills. Horoeka Track, to top in ~19:15 when I wasn't actively trying to beat the PB. Noticeably better momentum through most of the stream guts, whether that's improved fitness or grippier shoes or a combination, I don't know. Then a bit along the pylon roads, went a little way down what must be the way out to Blue Mountains before turning around and heading home the same way. Knees a bit sore on the harder surfaces.

Run 1:18:00 [3]
shoes: Asics 2017

Roads and riverbanks. Looped through Heretaunga Park and around St Pats to rejoin the river trail at the driving range for the return home. Thought this would bring me up to the hour 15 target, but had to add a bit of distance at the end to get there. Mostly at a pretty good pace, although as per usual started to struggle as soon as I was past the previous benchmark (1:10). Funny how the body remembers. A bit sore in random spots afterwards.

Walking 2:30:00 [1]

The Sanctuary - had some paperwork to drop off at ZIP and it seemed silly to go all the way there just for that, so headed up for a walk through the noisy forest. First time since the fence was closed that I've been right up into the upper parts of the valley (previous visits have been either short of time or with less mobile older relatives), so good to see there's plenty of wildlife action away from the valley floor. Attacked by a robin who seemed convinced that All my lunch was for her (despite it being significantly bigger than her) and nearly stood on what I'm willing to bet was the same tuatara that S and T had a near miss with the other day.

Run 42:00 [3]
shoes: Asics 2017

Taking 2 tired legs out for a recovery run, with a long stretching break in the middle. Roads and riverbank, downstream to somewhere along the Taita Drive section and back.
