Walking 5:00:00 [2]

An adventure in the Akatarawa headwaters (often literally) to meet the biggest known rata. And to install some traps in the vicinity. Enough rock-climbing, stream-wading, general-terrain-or-treefall-related-grovelling to definitely count as not the average walk in the park (which makes sense as technically it's not a Park, it's a Forest). Time is a guess but even taking out all the sitting around and waiting wouldn't bring it at all close to S-rah's assertion that we'd be coming out around about lunchtime.

It's a big tree by the way. On first sighting of the trunk through the forest I was wondering which of the two rata that I could see was IT as they both looked a pretty decent size. Then the person standing in front of me moved and it turned out I was only looking At The One Tree....

Hopefully public link to a few piccies of the day

Run hills 49:00 [3]

First 'voluntary' hill run for a while. Kingsley loop from home. Up to the top of the Horoeka track in about 21 minutes which is probably easily beatable - while I don't think I could ever run the ins and outs of a couple of the stream guts, those were not the only bits I was walking. Also had to have a couple of little walks on final stretch home, not sure if I can blame that on either the big descent leaving the legs feeling a bit rubbery or a shortage of quality sleep in the last week or so, or if I was just being lazy.

Social climbing 1:00:00 [2]

First time in a while. Also first time at Hangdog which has very high walls, mostly with at least a bit of overhang in there somewhere so not the best place to be with not very much in the tank. So a bit of a frustrating session with several climbs that I felt I'd pretty much solved the technical side but didn't have the stamina to carry it out. Stace claimed the same, only she was mostly making the same climbs that I wasn't! Oh well, I know what I have to work on if we get back to doing this regular, and it will be good to have quite a few projects that shouldn't be too hard to tick off if I do get the strength back.
