Waiuku, shorter course than I would have preferred but had got there a bit later than I intended and didn't want to be the guy that everyone was waiting for before packing up. In the end this was enough course for me today! Started slow, meaning I didn't take advantage of the easiness of the first two controls - then started winding into it as much as the body allowed (not much unfortunately). Up until about 11 or 12 I'd be reasonably happy with this run, there was some good orienteering going on, I may have even bagged a split! But on the other hand the three mistakes were expensive ones, with some seriously out-of-circle relocation happening. 4 misread some down as up (but once I'd got that everything made sense very quickly, 8 I'd argue the map was possibly a little deceptive, which meant going low and looking up would probably have been a better option than staying high and looking down, 12 is in an area that's done me in the past, but this time I was probably right on top of the control before starting my explorations to try and make sense of it. It was at this point I was joined by a 13 year old, whose navigation was impressing me, but in my attempts to shake her off by going straight as possible on every remaining leg while she used the tracks as much as possible I started to get a little bit messy, and she just kept popping up again!
Of all the times I've run here I think this is the first time I've really noticed the weird contour interval. Was able to adjust without any damage, but I do wish someone would fix that up some day!
