Run race 49:41 [4] 10.0 km (4:58 / km)
Eastside special 10 k edition. No idea if I'd even be capable of getting through the distance non-stop, let alone what to expect. Targetting <50 & had the plan of going for about 5 min km through the first 5 to be just over 25 minutes at the halfway mark and then start picking the pace up, but apparently I can't intentionally run that slow anymore! So 24:45 at the end of the first lap, but definitely slowing (30+mins at 6 km...) From about 7.5 km started trying to stay with people as they came past, but there were only a couple (but it was enough to get the pace back up to where needed), and at 9km (45:14) I knew the target was possible but i was going to have to work for it - somehow picked up the pace for the whole last km and put in a sub 4:30, without it feeling too tortuous. Happy.
Interesting there were very few who ran negative splits in the second half, which I think says something about how hard work all the up and down on the course is.
Now that I've ticked that one off, think I can officially declare myself to be on a taper til Easter. Or on a tapir, that might be more fun.
Note
Also, was in the field today - the 8km-ish walk makes me want to treat it as loggable training, but it was nice easy walking along Whaanga Road (stopping every 200 m for a trap check)
