Orienteering 46:00 [3] ** 5.3 km (8:41 / km)
spiked:40/40c

Score event at Govt Gardens, Rotorua. Cleaned up the map in well under the allowed hour. Didn't check out Rachel's route (who did the same in, ahem, 31 minutes) to see if there was a more efficient way of doing it, but nothing big jumps out at me. With such a density of controls, and proof questions requiring A LOT of counting at times, was very stop/start.

Run 34:00 [3]
(sick)

Just a bit of a run, despite my thursday allergy rearing its head again. Apparent by the end of the day it wasn't that, so hopefully as nasty a cold as it's turned into, it won't be hanging round long. (I should be in bed by now to help that along...)

Run race 25:23 [3] 5.0 km (5:05 / km)

1st appearance at the Eastside 5km for the season. Especially with all the calf tightness going on at the moment, the plan was to hide well back in the pack, pace myself comfortably rather than aggressively and not get tempted into any bother about going after a fast time.

So I hid well back in the pack, paced myself comfortably rather than aggressively, and went and hit my 2nd best time on the course (<20 secs off the pb). Bodes well if I can keep my body in one piece over the next few months (and if there's nothing to read into the fact that my pb is still the first time I turned up)

Left calf tight all the way round but didn't seem to get worse over the course of the run, even on the uphills, and was probably good it was tight enough to keep the discipline together after the 3km mark (which was where I first noticed things were going pretty well actually). And during the unavoidable walk on the trip home the legs in general felt pretty good.

Run warm up/down 5:00 [2]

Warm down after. No warm up (apart from walking across town to the Eastside) partly because I thought I was running the time management a bit close to the wire, and partly to keep myself out of race-mentality as I was supposed to be just easing into it tonight!

Note

Physio appointment, she did not like my calves, so under orders to do even more stretching every day and back again next monday. But no orders to not run - I might avoid playing on hills for a bit though. The reason I'm doing nothing today however is that I just ran out of time...
