Run 25:28 [4] 5.0 km (5:06 / km)
weight:73.3kg
Damn, I really thought tonight would be the night after feeling pretty quick on sunday. Until I stepped out of the chilled office into the tropical greenhouse that was impersonating Hamilton this afternoon (I expect an interjection from SusC here on what really constitutes hot and humid, but for a poor little boy raised in the climatic influence of Cook Strait it felt NASTY). Not so bad at the 5k course and the temperature even seemed to be dropping in the last couple of minutes before the start, but still far from ideal. Felt heavy right from the start and may have got into a group a bit too fast for me for much of the first km but then was running mostly alone. Despite feeling like I was crawling was making good enough time that at the southern turn I still seemed to be in with a chance of hitting that magical 25 but from there it was very hard work. At 20 minutes I could just see where I think the 4k mark is but it seemed just too far away and I think I kind of gave up after that. I needed that guy from last week (I think he's called Terry) chasing me through the final stretches, but he was somewhere around a minute behind. Maybe I need to develop my own internal Terry. Still, thinking I'd blown it and was looking at a pw rather than a pb I was astounded (and a little frustrated) by my time. But had I been able to push hard over the last km (and even if I'd kept the intent up I really don't think I could have done much more) I think I would have just been tantalisingly closer to the target rather than there. Had the conditions been friendlier however....?
Run warm up/down 8:00 [2]
The before was ok, the after really took some effort (and some time to get through the dizzy spells first)
