Run 29:00 [3]

Recovery run to gate and back. Actually felt surprisingly good, and no walking - almost like I've suddenly got my base back, or three days of hard racing is suitable training for a light run on Tutu Road more likely. Unfortunately my left ankle was feeling a bit sore - I do remember now rolling it a bit too far during sunday's race, so couldn't spend much time off the road. Will have to remember to give it some solid strapping if - sorry, WHEN - I run thurs. Other than that the only soreness of note was embarassingly left over from a short stretch of monday's race where for some reason my right knee started randomly whacking into the soft bit on the inside of my left knee!?! But no overall feeling of post race muscle death

Run warm up/down 5:00 [3]

Again arrival time was cutting moderately close to start time but again not as close as I thought. Forced myself into a bit of a warmup, but my warm down today consisted of lying in the grass feelind dead

Orienteering race 1:47:32 [3] *** 8.5 km (12:39 / km)
spiked:19/27c

Physically, started feeling pretty hammered and strangely that seemed to get worse further through the course... up to a nice trot from time to time I suppose. Technically a real mix. Headed off on a very wrong direction to control 1, was then navigating very sweetly for a while. Struggled a bit on the first visit to the pivot (10), not sure why but just couldn't really fit map to ground or vice versa in the area between 9 & 10. Then continuing on from yesterday's theme bolloxed it up even more on the 2nd visit (16), relocating off both 12 AND 9 on the way. LESSON: treat pivot controls as a new control on every visit!!!! Then seemed to just lose focus on alternate legs from there on, losing easily 5+ mins on one relatively tame control and probably a lot more accumulated time on several others.

Run warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Again, 5 minutes to the start, and 5 minutes back from the finish which was weirdly hidden in the middle of the forest - but that was good because I don't think I would have been good and warmed down afterwards

Orienteering race 1:18:41 [5] **** 8.5 km (9:15 / km)
spiked:20/29c

Switching to elite for the middle distance and the courses set a bit long (winning time was nearly 45 mins from memory) meant that this was basically as long as the weekend's two long races. But much faster. I'm not sure where I found the pace I was hitting for much of the course (though I have a fair idea where I lost it again - somewhere between controls 18 and 25). Guess Marangai has always been a speedy map for me. Was most pleased that Carsten couldn't quite eat up all my two minute head start on the 700m 1st leg - quite an eye-opener watching how quickly he disappeared into the forest after that though. Technically, seemed to be mostly limited to niggly little mistakes in or getting into the circle. But I was having trouble with the pivots, screwed both of them up worst on the last visit. If I was at the fitness level I should be and had the same run, would have been up with Ramash and Ellmo I think. GET BACK INTO IT NIC - PROPERLY!!!!

Run warm up/down 5:00 [3]

I don't know if it was 5 minutes but there was a bit of a last minute run to the start - to find the clocks were thankfully running later than mine so need to rush after all...

Orienteering race 1:46:15 [4] **** 8.8 km (12:04 / km)
spiked:13/20c

Thought I was in for a slow slog at first but my legs did get into it over the first few controls, and was still running more than not by the end - though if I hadn't got into a bit of a pack for the last km or so might have been a different story. Was ok through the 2 low vis sections except for one control which thankfully I blundered on just as I was running out of relocation ideas. Annoyed with 4th control being in wrong place, and definitely unfairly so, and it threw me for the next leg. Which was unfortunately a 1.8 km doozy - not the best to make a series of messes on!
