Run long 1:13:00 [3]

Waikato River walkway along h'way 30, from near the Christian Camp sitting on an island (I've always wondered why they need a causeway for access, when surely...) down to past the big wooden staircase (that was dumb, should've turned back there) and back again. Nice undulating track with lots of small uphills to attack and a few bigger ones to quietly slip past without making eye contact. After very little sleep had no real speed in the legs, which is good because I'd fallen into a mindstate (damn that "life" stuff, should be banned) that has led to some pretty hard fast aggressive workouts in the past and I don't think I could have had one of those today without damage of some sort. So aimed for a relaxed but long run instead. Felt good to about 50 minutes, then started to hurt and slow down a bit but got a bit of 2nd wind in the last 10 or so mins. Nice to see the car again though!

Could probably some time go from the Camp to Whakamaru itself for a similar length run, would just need a 2nd person to do the drop-off & pick-up...

Orienteering 1:11:06 [3] *** 5.1 km (13:56 / km) +255m 11:09 / km
spiked:8/13c

Okere, on the steep western side of the map which was good because my only other run here was on the slightly less steep eastern side. Not the best of runs physically (tired, a bit sinus-congested, and just not in as good a shape as a few weeks ago (I'm expecting a response from paul on that one!)) or mentally - check out that spike rate! #3 I was too low, < 1 min lost. Long leg 4-5 nailed the route choice and execution until right at the end, going into the bush too early & unfortunately found myself in an area I could fit to the control circle, but wasn't. 6, somehow dropped through the wrong saddle after double checking but again < 1 min. 10 starting looking a re-entrant too early, then if I hadn't had Grant D running with me would have carried on to a re-entrant too late. 12 was thinking more about the Grant behind me than the control in front, leading of course to the Grant behind me getting to the control in front, in front. So mostly just small minute or less mistakes, even with the big one at 5 would be <10 mins loss in total, maybe about 7 mins? Still would have been nicer without them. Think my focus was somewhere else at the time...

Note

I'm sure it's almost snowing here right now. The first 3 months of the Benneydale winter weren't too bad, but it's starting to head downhill now.

Note

I had a rest day. Because I'm Worth It (not because it was cold, wet and horrible by work's end, though according to the forecast I may be Worth It for much of the coming week). For Paul's benefit, over the course of the day I had one cup of tea, a banana, chocolate (that's a fruit isn't it?), and dinner included the following vegetables: onion, carrot, cauliflower, capsicum (2 colours) and green beans.

Run 1:05:00 [3]

International Jedi Day (May the 4th be with you). Sorry, when I heard that I decided it was so bad had to share with as many people as possible.

Mangaokewa walkway (just out of TK) as night fell. Almost could call it a terrain run as for a change this is one walkway that hasn't been bulldozed and tarsealed. Nothing special but nice enough scenic-wise to stop for if you're passing. Meant to be a shorter run (40-50 mins), turning around at a waterfall that appears to be the major attraction here but somehow ran right past it then continued for some way out of the bush & into the farm behind it (yes there's still a marked track) before deciding that either I'd missed it or the quoted walking times had been set by a very very good race walker. But nice to know I can keep up a nice easy pace for an hour plus without any struggle. Admittedly the return half was a bit slower as my torch seemed to be only picking out every second tree root on the track...
