Walking 50:00 [1]

Brisk walk with light strapping on the Huka walkway. Maybe a bit too much too soon, cause I was feeling a bit sore by the end, and again this morning. Or that might have been rolling the foot in a mini-ditch in the track almost as soon I started...

We had a giggle at a 50 something mountain biker who was wearing all the right gear... and brown argyle socks. Though courtesy of one of the discussion threads running hot right now, I now learn that he's on the cutting edge of fitness fashion.

Note
(injured)

Woke this morning to find swelling almost all gone, though a fair bit of "colour" around the effected ligament. Had a reasonably slow, quiet day in the field with the ankle very heavily strapped. OK most of the time but doesn't take much of certain movements to create muy paino, and an increase in general achiness as the day progressed (if my favourite podiatrist still reads this, she will be impressed with my terminology). Also started getting pretty tired out by mid afternoon which may be related, or maybe just not enough sleep lately.

Run 28:00 [3]
(injured)

Had been rained in all day and never got out of the house/office. So when things started to clear up very late in the afternoon, ran down to the letterbox to see if anyone had sent me any presents (no, dammit), and back again. Uncomfortable run, like I'd had a month off, not really stretching out and took a few minutes to get the breathing cycle going, which is kind of weird. Then when almost home gave my ankle a very nasty turn. So I guess it might be a few weeks now before I start on that plan to ramp up the effort....

Note
(rest day)

Hard weekend - not just physically and technically! But felt a lot better today than expected (probably not getting out into the field before 2 pm helped!). I suppose I'm now counting down to oceania. Will probably take things fairly easy for a week, then for lack of better ideas start getting the hours back up, and the intensity with a return to weekly interval sessions. Probably will go back to time-based intervals if I can make that work here. Not that I really know what I'm doing...

Run warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Before and after... maybe more after for a change

Orienteering race 1:24:20 [4] ***** 6.8 km (12:24 / km) +130m 11:19 / km
spiked:20/26c

Redemption day. Came out ahead of all the usual opposition, and with Neil too busy chasing the elites around with a camera to race that translated to a rare win. 54 minutes to get through the nice forest (might work out the distance sometime) with only two regrets: lulled by the very short leg to 4, didn't check direction coming out of 3 so had to go most of the way back to 3 to have another go (just over 1 minute lost), then tried to throw the race away at 9, convinced myself the re-entrant extended out from the floor of the big depression when it was one contour up, then when I figured that out must have walked past the flag twice! = 7 mins lost. OTOH very happy with route choice on longest leg to 2, (Nick was quicker on another route but we can call that leg speed) and spiking some of the vaguest controls on the course.

Then, The Maze... 21 minutes for that section. Took the 1st 3 controls and a bit of random time wasting flailing around to get my head into it. Thankfully had a loose pack of Matthew, Aaron, Ramash, Dave Midds etc to add searching eyes. Thankfully it all clicked after that because I didn't see much of any of those fullahs from then on. Then 4 minutes from the world's least necessary map change to the finish (think the map change was just to scare us with the thought of a second loop in The Maze!)
