Orienteering race 1:48:50 [3] **** 7.8 km (13:57 / km)
spiked:9/17c

Coastal strip at Pot Luck. Inland blocks look beautiful, but yet another section of Woodhill has been locked up for single-use-recreation. Can't say that I heard many 4wds using the 4wd park though. End result was the course was quite a mission. And I proceeded to make it even more of one. A combination of the most physically and technically demanding course I'd struck for a while, a bit more happening in the open dunes than what's mapped, and a late night (alright, early morning) beforehand. Just kind of lost focus for the middle part of the course and had a few legs in a row where I'd alternate between nailing the leg then having trouble at the control or vice versa. And my legs just disappeared about the 70-80 minute mark. Still, given I could probably find 10-15 minutes easily lost to fluffing around, and another 5 for the lack of sleep, to only be half an hour behind the likes of Fly'n and Tania, SOMETHING must be working!

Run (mostly terrain) 48:00 [3]

Impressed flatmate for being out for over an hour after a busy day's work, but had to admit to stopping for a bit of korero with the neighbours on the way. More exploring, poked my nose into the pines past the tutu blocks to see if they were runnable - light green at best, although not choked with blackberry like every other pine block around here. Not a great run, didn't really get going and kept hitting slow spots, a bit low on energy; but did manage to nicely stride out coming back home along the flats.

Run (50% terrain) 23:00 [3]

Got home just in time for a 23 minute break between freezing showers. Easy recovery pace. Various muscles and joints feeling a little tired or sore, hopefully in part because of the cold, but good reminder that tomorrow's to be a rest day (outside of work hours at least).

Run intervals (Hill reps) 46:00 [4]

As in the last 2 weeks, but with 6 reps on the hill - wow, huge step up. That crafty little headwind over the crest of the hill was back again, but not so strong this time. Maybe could've done a few more if I hadn't found myself going a good clip on the out to highway and back part of the run, but was enjoying it too much to control it.

Contemplating a sneak up to AK for the OY on sunday, be nice to reaquiant myself with sand dunes before Labour weekend. But worth 4 hours drive each way?
