Hmmm that last entry was a touch on the negative side (& I didn't even mention what's really been winding me up lately...) so I'd better counter that with some good news that's also developed during the unplanned training hiatus. Late August, birdman begins up to 2.75 years in the employ of Massey University, carrying out fieldwork manipulating and monitoring robin and rat numbers in forest fragments. This is an exciting project in an ecological sense, but I won't explain why here, to prevent readers' eyes from rolling over backwards. But it's also exciting for me, as for the first time in far too long I know where I'll be more than 6 months down the track. The downside is that where I know I'll be for more than 6 months down the track is ...Benneydale! A prize to the first person who knows where that is. Clue: my agent will shortly begin transfer negotiations with Hamilton and Taupo Orienteering Clubs. I hope the bidding doesn't get too frenzied...
