Orienteering 1:05:00 [4] ***

Mt Vic - I'd give it two and a half technical stars if I could, coz it's not really "simplified", but you get to know your way round it pretty well (maybe that's why WOC never seems to have got round to remapping between visits - just to keep us on our toes?). Tried to get some good o-habits going like always knowing how I was leaving the control before I got there etc, but didn't really happen (I blame the punching controls!). It was a "get all the controls in any order" thing, mostly coming down to a choice between clockwise and anti, but there were a few groups that you had to really think about the best order - probably didn't nail that part of it every time.

Run 55:00 [3]

Did another quick tour of most of the Battle Hill map. Have now checked out pretty much everything except an area crucial for bringing the easy courses through, (hmmm - that's just occurred to me now, and maybe it's not so good time management...?) and it appears the accuracy of the map has not deteriorated much since the last event I went to there, whenever that was. A few little adjustments that could be made, or I could get away without. Some of them have potential as control sites so more tempting to make them than miss them. Now to get some of the course ideas down on paper, see if I can actually link them together...

Went right up to the top of Battle Hill itself - tempting to have a bonus control there that enyone who visits gets 5 mins off their time - stunning view right down the valley, I can see why Te Rangihaeta dug himself in here for a few days even if it was just a ruse.

Run 48:30 [3]

This makes up for all the times I've felt really unmotivated but made myself go out then felt pretty good once I've started running. Today I was feeling enthusiastic, legs were OK, lovely day with the lurking southerly change getting slower and slower, surely my only worry was getting back to the office before too many people noticed how long I'd been gone. Once I started though.... NAH!!! Legs didn't want to stretch out, the least bit of hill was knocking me back to a walk, just wasn't really interested or ever got into it. No doubt getting stopped at every traffic light between Manners St and Central Park didn't help - not the best help in warming up. Headed south through town belt between Brooklyn and Mt Cook/Newtown. Turned around towards the south end of that string of parks, then rather than finding some interesting way to loop back just decided I'd had enough and hit the streets back to the office. Ah well, hope there's not too many days like that.

Run 30:00 [3]

"Easy Wednesday". Pretty much the same route as last Wednesday, pretty much the same time. Well fancy that.

Hardest thing today was spending most of it looking at a screenful of XL gridlines. Some days the eyes just rebel!

Run intervals 33:30 [4]

The good old waterfront, didn't think I'd have a "hard" session because the sleep I haven't been getting in the last week or so is starting to catch up. But once I was out there, felt OK enough for an intervals sesh, though not quite up to rating it as a "5". 4x4 minutes, 1-2 minutes recovery. Not hitting the same speed on the last 4 as I did in the first, funnily enough. Never stopped for a proper stretch, which I'll surely regret tomorrow.
