Run 32:00 [3]

Also fieldchecking part of the Hamilton super-map handy to work, but it would still be a bit of a stretch to use the 'orienteering' label for this session. Speaking of stretch, yes I was good and stopped to do that a couple of times. Needed to anyway, legs felt heavier than they have the last few times I've been out.

Wednesday Jul 30, 2014 #

Note

Exercises as I was still feeling a bit too sore for a run. 10/15/20 (ie upped the ratio of eccentric)

Monday Jul 28, 2014 #

Note

Strangely not keen for a run by the end of today, so exercises instead. Same 10/20/15 formula as last time, and felt right at the limit with it. Physio tomorrow so will probably get a good working over...

Walking 3:30:00 [1]

So, I accidentally climbed Mt Te Aroha today, breaking just about every rule in the intention book in the process. Was planning on doing a loop around the lower slopes but when I passed the junction where I needed to turn off the main track, I didn't think that it looked right so carried on to the next junction. The next junction was with the service road that goes to the summit. At the summit. (And no, I didn't have a map with me). Thankfully another couple turned up at the summit not long after I did, as there were parts of the upper track that I wasn't too happy about going down by myself, when nobody knew where I was, so I joined them for the walk down.

Ignoring all the things that could have gone seriously wrong, it was an awesome day, and I think I'm excused from doing the calf exercises I'm due for today.

Run 35:00 [3]

Along the river from Piranha Park to Cobham drive and back with a bit of deviation - probably approaching 6km all up. Did the proper 3 stage thing, ie >5 mins warm up and down and stopping for stretches, but as I tried to keep the 20ish minute 'main course' at a fairly gentle pace (with some success) I haven't separated out the times.

Friday Jul 25, 2014 #

Note

Exercises: 10 x 2 launch, 20 x 2 bent leg, 15 x eccentric.

Run 19:00 [4]

Ohope, along the beach until I felt it was getting too dark to find the access ways back off the beach, then probably trespassing thru someone's section to demonstrate that indeed it was getting too dark to find the access ways and back along the main road. Was a bit naughty - was supposed to be a gentle run, but by the time I was out on the road was pushing quite hard! But didn't regret it, even the naxt day.

Run 12:00 [3]

The naughtiest bit was that I hadn't stopped for a stretching session after 5 mins - a combination of not being able to read my watch in the gloom and a lack of convenient trees or lampposts on the beach. So before ending the run I made sure I did some good stretches and then a much more sedate 10ish minute loop. Ohope is nice.

Wednesday Jul 23, 2014 #

Note

Exercises: 10 x 2 launch, 15 x 2 bent leg, 15 x eccentric. So far it feels like dropping down the launch ones (and raising the eccentrics to compensate) has made a difference to comfort levels!

Netball 30:00 [4]

Dammit, I'd decided this would be my last game as a 'regular' (because I've got very much over how seriously one or two of the others seem to get), but it was probably the most fun yet - against a very quick team with passing almost as loose as ours so lots of changing posession, and just the right amount of push and shove ;-). In A for the whole game (would have loved to have come off for the last 5 minutes but our sub got nabbed at the other end first. Got my 3rd or 4th goal in ..let's not say how many games...

I guess with the win last week and a fun one this week I can feel I'm leaving the team on a high note - and I've told Arna and Stace that they can still call upon me whenever the weekly round-up comes up short (hopefully that will only happen when the individuals that wind me up are unavailable!)

Monday Jul 21, 2014 #

Note

15 x 2 pairs 'launch' calf raises
15 x 2 pairs bent leg calf raises
10 pairs eccentric

A bit of a week of disruption (trip back and forth to Whakatane, and one more to come) and generally feeling shattered (spent most of sunday, which could have been a good day for doing stuff, in bed). So I guess it was a good time for both calves to be the worst they have for a while? Think I'd been ramping the exercise numbers up a bit quickly, so cut down today especially on the eccentrics. But it seems to be the 'launches' that feel the worst so maybe I should decrease those and increase the others.

Netball 20:00 [4]

Whole first half on A, some of the second half on D - against a team that the lazy defense strategy of letting them shoot and grabbing the missed shot strategy worked well. I have now played in half of our team's wins.

Leg had not been 100% over last few days, hence a couple of semi-accidental rest days. Sharp feeling up the middle of the calf after the game, not so good.

Saturday Jul 12, 2014 #

Note

Ditto. Very much an indoor day.

Friday Jul 11, 2014 #

Note

Exercises - 25 eccentric 15 x 2 (x2) of the others. Think I might stick with those numbers for a bit. Getting to be hard work.

Run 28:30 [3]

Included about the usual amount of warm up and down but while I remembered to stop the watch for the stopping and stretching I forgot to refresh it each time - ah well, not a lot of difference between my warm up pace and 'actual run' pace at the mo so no need to break it up really! Thought it would be hard and slow after the medal race for the WOC long kept me up till past 2:30... but was surprisingly good, until I turned around into the headwind and discovered just how much help I'd been getting up to then!

Wednesday Jul 9, 2014 #

Note

Exercises - 20 eccentric, 2 x 20 each of the other calf lifts
Had hoped to get a run in as well, but feeling under the weather so will have to accept being short a seesion this week

Monday Jul 7, 2014 #

Note

Exercises - 15 eccentric, I think 2 x 30 (each leg) of the others

Sunday Jul 6, 2014 #

Run 20:00 [3]

A jaunt around and about Forest Lake after trying and failing to find a suitable event centre in a nearby part of town that would otherwise be awesome for one of our spring rogaines. It's a fun place to run, probably about as close to training in terrain as you can get without leaving Hamilton, especially at the moment when most of the flat bits fall somewhere on the soggy-to-boggy scale. So a few little uphills, a bit of contouring and a bit of resistence work on the flats - fun but not (at this point) the easiest 20 minutes! Fine at the time and afterwards, hopefully there's nothing to the little jab I had in the calf later.

Run warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Being good and disciplined.

Saturday Jul 5, 2014 #

Note

Refer to Wednesday. Was intending a run today as that would make the alternating run/strengthening days fit better with my other plans for the week, but things didn't feel quite right in the leg. And the weather failed to encourage.

Thursday Jul 3, 2014 #

Run 16:00 [3]

Down by the riverside. Not as cold as I'd feared but still not exactly tropical!

Run warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Same pain as I had last week around the ankle just started to hit towards end of the warm-down. If it has to happen I suppose that's the most appropriate time for it...

Wednesday Jul 2, 2014 #

Note

Exorcising the baby cow: 20 pairs each type of calf raise (10 at a time) and 20 eccentrics in the middle. Definitely hitting my current limit!

Netball 15:00 [4]

We had our biggest turnout for a while so not much time on court. Ended up in D which is my least favourite position, but after faffing round for the first few minutes think I had my best game there so far.
