Walking 40:00 [1]

Via the physio so punctuated by a deep tissue massgae among other things, meaning the second half of the walk probably had a slightly odd pace going on...

Hamilton Gardens. Wasn't firing along like last week, anything resembling an uphill was a struggle. I felt a little bit happier about this afterwards when I realised it was 5m contours, not 2! The one control that got in the way of a pefect record was a bit dodgy, but I still should've found it quicker.

Walking 40:00 [1]

Sore when I got up, but the walk to work seemed to improve things

Run 30:00 [2]

Hannah's Bay, Rotorua. Hard to get into it, not enough sleep, just muggy enough to be noticeable, and a little stop-start. But guess that means there was no danger of going too hard, too fast...

Walking 40:00 [1]

Actually feeling as tight today as I expected to feel yesterday... after entering STB of course.

Walking 40:00 [1]

A bit sore once I started moving around in the morning, but nothing of the "oh you really shouldn't have done that" scale. Walking into work was probably a good move.

University. Was supposed to take it easy as this was the first run since the tendon rupture, but apparently I can't take it easy on this map. Somehow seemed to survive intact though, so I'm happy. Got dragged off my route choice on a long leg, otherwise the nav was fine, and the orienteering process/flow wasn't too rusty...

Walking 2:30:00 [1]

Taranaki Falls (the round trip) with Jen and occasionally Andy's parents and nieces (the nieces were quite happy to adopt us for a little while when we caught up with them, rather than be waiting for the grandparents the whole time). The beech/cedar forests are lovely, and pretty much everythng above the treeline is flowering, so definitely A Nice Walk. Of course Jen and I would have much rather been doing The Crossing with Andy and Emma, but I figure my calf would not have been happy with all that Up followed by all that Down. As it is, the last half hour of our baby-trip was maybe past the 'a bit too much' threshold, and the leg was all a bit sore the next day.

Walking 2:00:00 [1]

Various short walks around Whakapapa with my mate Andy, his partner Emma, parents and nieces, maybe adding up to 2hrs worth. Was only the 10+ minutes constant uphill section on the last one which bothered my calves, but there were hotpools at Tokaanu afterwards.

Walking 39:00 [1]

Commute, homewards this time and I've dropped a minute in recognition of the tailwind!

Walking 40:00 [1]

Commute, with a break in the middle for a visit to my friendly physio. Was hoping to catch a bus for the 2nd half, after all the poking and prodding, but just missed it apparently.

Commute - despite feeling pretty sore when I first got up, feel better for the walk

Walking 40:00 [1]

commute! again, only logged to keep track of how much walking I'm doing in total

Walking 2:00:00 [1]

Not one I'd normally log but this will help me keep in mind what I'm doing between physio checks. A nice day in a regional park between Miranda and Clevedon that I'd had no previous knowledge of the existence of. Taking it easy but plenty of up and down and coastal cobbles to test the leg. It felt fine but I probably wouldn't have gone much further than we did before feeling the need to turn around, and I felt a bit sore and stiff the next day.

Note

Physio today. Things look positive for a reasonably fast heal (for starters the physio student who was working on me couldn't immediately find the rupture just by sight like the doctor did on wednesday) but other than that it wasn't immediately clear what my expectations should be...

Run 28:00 [3]
(injured)

Half a lap of Blue Lake, stop/start as Jen was struggling a bit today, then started off on a full lap by myself which worked well with the plan to get up to an hour-ish run. But only a few minutes in, something went pop, and Nic went ouch.

Yes, a tendon, but thankfully not the Achilles itself, just one of the branches off it, so hopefully a few quiet weeks are all that's needed.
