Note

Returning to Benneydale today.
Starting 13 days continuous rat trapping and monitoring tomorrow. Should be a nice gentle test to see if I'm ready to get back into training.

Walking 1:30:00 [1]

Due back in the field by the end of the week, so thought I'd better try something other than just walking around town. Did some of the Manawatu Gorge walkway, going out for long enough to allow some git to force my car door lock. Leg was feeling fine but not 100% at the time but SORE last night and first thing this morning.

Note

If a physio ever tells you they're going to try the cups of fire (I'm certain that's what he actually called them), run like hell. Unless you can't, in which case you probably do need them but they do REALLY HURT!

Note
(injured)

Update - good news is that the doctor I found reckons muscle not tendon damage, bad news is that he laughed when I said phew, because I'm due in the field in 2-3 weeks. Doesn't feel so bad after a weekend of little more than RIC (E was suprisingly uncomfortable to adequately achieve) and have first physio session today so we'll see, but probably no more running until at least mid-september (after the rat-knockdown) at best.

Note

Woohoo! My new physio-friend is a sadist - I've had needles stuck in me AND been electrocuted. Can't wait to see what he comes up with for the next session... the rack? the iron maiden? .... the (gasp) Comfy Chair?

Run 35:00 [3]
(injured)

Would be nice to be able to find out what's aggravating a particular body part without actually doing it. I now know it's running uphills and going down steps that was aggravating my achilles. And that it's a long walk back to the office from where I discovered that.

Note

Not feeling very sick at all today, and the weather's great (even breaking the shorts out would be a possibility) BUT my achilles, particularly left, suddenly started feeling tighter than a scotsman the night before payday last night. Hmmm, should I? shouldn't I?....

(I didn't. Maybe tomorrow though)

Note
(rest day)

Yep, feeling grot. Think it's just a cold but undecided about how nasty it is so far. Thurs, fri supposed to be pretty nice so unless I start heading downhill fast, might still bring my running gear in and see what happens

Run 34:00 [3]

Home to work. Played around a bit off the main tracks in the Esplanade, but didn't seem to really add much distance - it's one of those parks that seems bigger than it is I suppose. Starting to feel a bit grot, that might be it for the week especially if I start oinking anytime soon - or maybe I just had too much breakfast this morning

Run 1:05:00 [3]

From work to home, the long way: Campus - equestrian centre - Turitea walkway (for a little bit of hillwork) - down to the river - past the esplanade to the dog exercise area then through Riverdale (without getting lost this time but pretty much retracing thursday's steps without the unnecessary cul-de-sacs) to home. Sweet!

Incidentally anyone who happened to look up the word ngaro last week will hopefully be relieved to learn that I meant it in the "lost" sense rather than any of the other meanings the Ngata dictionary throws up, some of which would be rather alarming things to happen to someone running round the streets of Palmy.

Note

Winter Classic the easy way - playing paparazzi at the event centre and the top of Polhill. Hopefully got some good shots off in between clinging on to the tops of the old gun emplacements during wind gusts
