Run 1:37:00 [3]

Orienteering race 2:20:00 [4] *** 12.6 km (11:07 / km) +240m 10:09 / km

Jukola leg 6. All day and night Saturday had been very wet and everything in the team tent was getting soaked so the whole jukola experience was not going to plan. However shuoc team 2 was performing beyond expectations so headed out over 2 hrs ahead of the final mass start rather than within it. Couldn't save Rob from the same fate though. Big time loss on 1, didn't have good strategy to deal with all the elephant tracks and went to a wrong fork first. After that could actually orienteer for a few km and got back in the game. From around 8 or 9 tracking built up again so navigation became more about picking the one that matched the route choice which mostly worked apart from another wrong fork incident at 13 (more distance but less time cf #1, also a couple of small in circle misses at 7 and 21. Kept pushing hard all the way but started to really struggle from 15 which I guess was about the 2 hour/10 km mark so not so surprising. A real battle which explains the post race breakdown that entertained my teammates but I'm actually really happy with how it went

Orienteering 1:00:00 [1]

Map walk. Not particularly focused so I guess a certain amount of wandering in circles was inevitable

Run 1:05:00 [3]

An attempt to get 2 days of economy class and airport terminals out of my legs. I was dubious it would work but felt better almost as soon as I started, so ended up going both longer and further (if my post run map reading is right) than I hoped though it did start getting hard work toward the end. Lapinlahti to Pikku Huopalahti and back. Does judith wyder live in Helsinki? I may have been running with her or at least a convincing look alike - briefly!

Run 1:00:00 [3]

Finally far enough through other priorities I felt I should stop ignoring the wonderful weather. Ran the Te Tapui loop - not the first time I've been here but both previous visits I got no further than our first trapline. 30 minutes up the steeper way (right fork) and 30 minutes down the longer way, which is the right way to run it, the steeper way also includes more sections of surface tree root tangles that I wouldn't want to encounter at downhill speed/out-of-controlness. Given it's the first long run, truly off-road run and hill-climbing run since forever, pretty happy how it went though there wasn't much running going on in the last bit of the climb. Think Jas or Bozzy could easily take a chunk off my time however, if they could find the place. Ankle tender afterwards but more round the cuboids etc

Run 44:00 [3]

Fairfield/Victoria Bridge loop and biomechanic experiment. Tried to get into an altered pace as suggested by my physio to reduce impact on the cuboid(?) and various other small parts of the foot that appear to exist solely to be aggravated as a result of other injuries. Either I wasn't getting it right (which would explain why it didn't feel quite as weird as expected) or it didn't seem to make much difference. The whole thing felt a bit of a slog regardless of whether I was trying the altered stride or not, but I still carried on further than expected.
